Just replace the filters today and light up the pilot light, I turn off the pilot light last March-April.

Usually I didn't turn on the heater until after Thanksgiving when the temperature in the house dropped below 60F at night, but this year the weather is colder than normal and it was only 56-58F the last 2-3 nights and around 60-62F in the evening.

The thermostat was set at 58F from midnight to 6:00 AM and from 8:00 AM till 5:00 PM, 65F from 6:00 AM to 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM till midnight. With these settings the cost to heat the 2850 sq ft house was around $30-60 a month.

4 weeks ago. Today it was warm around high 20s. Snow on the ground and blizzard warnings for the next 2-3 days.

Its 8 below at my Sisters house! And 40 mph winds!

We keep the house at 69 degrees till 4pm then 71 till 10pm. About $50-70 depending on how cold outside. 2500 sq ft home.
No pilot light and well insulated home.

Winter is here...

No heat yet.... The real cold front gets here on Thanksgiving.
We'll actually get a freeze that night.

Can't wait for that burned dust smell.

Hadn't been on since early March.

But the A/C did run today.

My house retains heat very well so I generally don't need to turn on the furnace until December, but this year it has gotten pretty chilly overnight rather often, so I've had mine on since the beginning of November. It was getting below 67 in the house, that's too chilly for my family's comfort. We like it closer to 70.

My 40 years old house is not well insulated, if I set the thermostat at 68-70F it may cost me several hundreds dollars a month, my family like to bundle up in heavy sweater(s).

We've had ours 'on' for at least a month now.

72F throughout the day..66 at night if everyone is healthy, 68-9 if any of the kids are sick. 80 y/o house with the expected amount of insulation (hey, at least the plaster walls have it I guess).

Upgrade to a 95% efficient furnace last year cut our bills by 35-40%. Slowly upgrading as we go.

I turn on the central heating only a few times during the winter when it gets below 50F which is around this time. I just turn it on for a while before going to bed since the bed can get really cold. Those small portable heaters don't work very well to heat up even a small room.

The house I'm living in is a little over 90 years old so there is not much insulation. I do notice that newer houses that have full insulation feel much warmer inside even without turning on the heat.

No heat, no real winter down here and it sucks. Still have the ac on.
At least when i leave my college town(corpus) and go home (houston) for x-mas I'll have some what of a winter haha

Not yet but the woodstove has been going on and off for about a month now. I hope I can get well into December using only wood 24/7. I'd say in the 14 years I'm living here the woodstove probably just about bought me my Jeep, new.

Furnace was turned on Oct 17th after the furnace guy did the annual cleaning. My 85 year old Dad lives with me and he does not have a spleen so he can NOT be allowed to get sick. I have to run the furnace and keep the house at least in the low 60's. Furnace is set at 60 overnight and 62-64 during the day depending on how cold he feels.

It has been fairly warm here in NH this fall/early winter so far so the furnace has not run a lot. We are getting back to more normal weather with it in the 40's vs 50's and 60's though so it is now running more often.

Had to run our heater just a few weeks ago. The temp in the house finally got down to where I was uncomfortable, which is about 58 indoors.

But yesterday it was warm enough for ac, which I did not turn on.

I hate cold temps! In hot temps, I can always find a way to cool down but when my hands and feet get cold, it takes a while for me to warm up.

Hopefully it's a mild winter for us!

We still have the windows open. Winter doesn't really get here until January into February. I've gone swimming on New Years!

ours has been on for about a month but until recently has not run a lot, 1400 sq foot house fairly well insulated 35 year old house with original furnace, in jan our bill will be about 200.00 we keep it at 67

Our thermostats are set at 66F. We use oil in our boiler anyway to supply domestic hot water so it has been running since 2008 at least when I moved in.

I live in a 100 year old well insulated for age home with brand new windows. A few cold spots but otherwise solid.

I supplement with a nice efficient European wood stove and lots of maple, apple and cherry wood.

Wow. Most of ya'll have your thermostat set around the mid 60's during the day to keep warm? Man oh man, that would freeze me out. I still got the AC on. Come turkey day, all that changes. I'm hoping to be able to wash the cars one last time.
