thank you. ship looks squared away and well run. it is a true testament to the men who designed and built it.

Still running on the same tracks, but hauling tourists up to Whittaker Station and Bald Knob, and back...

Climax #9, built 1920, just finished a major rebuild. It was in the repair shop in 1972, when fire broke out. It then sat on the dead line until 2000, when dedicated volunteers restored it, the process taking nearly two decades....

If your in West Virginia, stop by and take a ride to yesteday on a coal burning geared steam locomotive, up a 4000+ foot mountain....

Pretty sure the Mount Washington cog railway also has steam locomotives.

Just finished reading the Wikipedia article on them. Another miracle created by Henry J Kaiser's Vancouver WA ship yards. Steam engines didn't require gear cutting equip to produce. that turbines needed. Probably why they were used in the Liberty ships

Is that THE Les Rudnick? If so, tell him Tom Schaefer retired from Hatco sends his regards. He's a genuine synthetic lubricants expert.

Yes sir. The same Les Rudnick. I cannot express enough how much we appreciate working with Les. Doing so allows us to be the "unbotique, boutique oil company". We are still small and flexible but have the super knowledge and discipline of a guy like that making sure we do things correctly.

I will absolutely tell him you said hello.

Really? The WW-II liberty ships had some variant of the Skinner Uniflow engine. I wonder what the difference was.
I thought they had an older design triple expansion engine. That’s what was in the engine room of the one I’ve been on*.

Yes, I recall the Liberty and T2 tankers got VTE engines. Escort carriers (Casablanca-class) got the Uniflows.

I rode on that ship (with car) in about 1989 iirc. was a kid.
I remember someone using spray deodorant in the small cabin about choked me out..

funny what you remember 30+ years later. It was a nighttime trip and there was a huge orange harvest moon... was pretty amazing.
