Does anyone else have wheels on their vehicle sourced form another vehicle manufacturer?
99-04 Mustang GT 17X8 on a 96 Maxima.

Looks nice!

Unfortunately, my focus has one of Ford's oddball bolt patterns so I can't do that

Not by much, the extra width moves them both closer to the struts, and further out. Actually the offset couldn't be better for my taste.

I may go with a mild drop when I eventually replace my worn struts.

I ran 16" caddy wheels on my 87 Buick years ago. Not really a different OEM, just a different brand under the GM umbrella. Like you, I kept the center caps.

What size tires are you running on that 17x8?

I like the way it's pretty much flush in the rear fender well as far as I can tell from the pictures, but the front one sticks out a little too much for my tastes. I'm not sure how much camber the front of Maxima's have but for me it'd either be dialing in some camber or rolling/stretching the front fenders a bit. It's not bad, I just prefer the top of the wheel to be about 10mm more inbound based on your picture.

I want to get new wheels for my Mazda6 (current ones have some curb rash), it is currently on factory 18x8 with a 60mm offset. The offset is whats killing choices, I'd go as low as a 45mm but would prefer 50mm-55mm in a 18x8.5 or 18x9 so I can put some 245/40R18 on [I know a 8" can work with a 245 but with 245 it'd be optimal on a 8.5-9.0].

I'm pretty sure that the vehicle manufacturer's don't make the rims that they put on cars. They just buy the rim on the open market and use their own center cap or hubcap.

I think they look good. I also think 2000 Cobra-R wheels would look great on this car too. I agree with whomever mentioned that you need to lower it a bit to fill the wheel wells.

Wheels are made by the OEM or FOR the OEM on contract. Wheels are specific to make, model, and year at least as far as alloys are concerned.

I upsized the Camry's 15s to 17s from a Lexus SC, a perfect fit...

...not exactly a different OEM, but the brand of wheels, Fondmetal of Italy, is not a supplier to Toyo/Lexus, but is to Euro companies, Porsche, Audi, Merc and Formula 1 racing teams....so they make wheels TO FIT (vs. universal bolt hole patterns, etc) without spacers and hub adapters. I like that.

Also every make seems to have a unique rim flange/ weight interface style. I have Saab alloys on my Chevy HHR (weird 5x110 pattern) and they require "IAW" weights.

A rim intended for the aftermarket often doesn't have ANY outside weight flange-- they expect a static balance or hidden tape weights inside behind the spokes.
