Pulling the wheels to check the brakes and notice this,

not my first rodeo and have a lock removal kit. Just hope they don't put up too much of a fight. And no I'm not replacing them with new locks. Who is going to steal 14 inch wheels?

Some dealer probably installed those for the additional peace of mind and security, at the low, low price of $29.95 per wheel.

I think your decimal is in the wrong place there ! 🤣
Imagine back then the mfgs felt something tangible had to be installed if they were gonna charge $895. Today it’s ok to simply print an additional line item with nothing added physically.

Mid 2000s you could actually get something included and not even mentioned at all. Example on a 2007 BMW 335, the $1500 sport package had an external engine oil cooler on manual cars.

All business models…

The weirdest experience.....A Costco told me they don't think they could replace my tires because of fracturing on the wheel locks. I was like oooh never heard that before and was a little concerned. Then they said it's all good.

I scoured eBay for

1. Toyota genuine lug nuts, 20 of them
2. Toyota genuine wheel lock kit, pretty sure rebranded McGard

Since #2 was only $28 on eBay, and #1 was even more, I went with #2.

Ultimately I decided they were whack and just use the 2006 wheel locks to this day. The wheel locks are somewhere in the basement. I preferred OE because I really couldn't confirm 100% which aftermarket kit was right.

$29.95 in 1991 dollars x 4 wheels = $267.95 today.
Do you know in 12/06, I got the tire and rim protection package on my new 335i, and it was $250. One RE050A runflat was almost $400, so no brainer (not really never claimed anything in 5 years of protection haha). I also went with the body protection which was another $500. I did have 3 PDRs and one major touchup when sprayed by a dump truck.

My buddy posted someone's 2023 Genesis where tire protection was $1439 :ROFLMAO:
