It's a plug in hybrid. It's charging by generator by choice because it's cheeeeeeeeeap and more efficient than running the engine.
You should only use the genuine Tesla Mobile Gas Can accessory, not some sketchy non-approved generator.
gas in the gen tank, O gas in the 'big' tank. So they do as they do.
I once saw my little sister try to charge her cellphone off the lighter plug of her car.
The car already had a dead battery. I do not know where she thought the lighter plug electrons were going to come from...........

Put the generator in front of the car or behind that truck, so someone does not notice it from a distance and steal it.

For me, it seems there's nothing "wrong".
I will, though, concede that many are going to say there's irony in the photo; the EV being charged by a gasoline generator.
However, what I see is the less apparent truth which lays underneath ... Most electricity today is still driven by fossil fuels; either coal or natural gas.
This photo only illuminates the natural cycle of EVs harvesting power, but in a much more succinct manner.
