What's wrong with these onions?

The skins of these onions seems off. The red, white and Vidalia onions all had the same skin condition, wrinkly and tattered. They are normally smooth skinned. Is this a bad crop, transportation or water damage?

I normally see ones that are smooth skinned, picture perfect so I was surprised to see these. Maybe stayed to long in the truck.
Same here. They are tight and smooth when fresh but when they start to age like us they wrinkle up..lol
Probably need to peel away a layer or two and they are good but not to store away for later.

My guess is there getting older (dried) and the skins are separating.

I recently saw a supermarket employee peeling the loose skins off the onions.
Very time consuming.
I mentioned to her - if she wore rubber gloves, it would go faster.

The biggest problem I see is they're not Vidalia onions.
The ones on the right? I think those are Vidalia, yellow are on the left next to the red. Unless they are sweet onions? Vidalia are flatter than normal I believe. I'm not an onion expert lol.
