I asked a similar question earlier but felt it would be better over here. I want to know the best fluid I can use for my 98 Saturn sl2 dexron doesn't seem to really be the best IMO. Thanks guys .

Of all the things Saturns are known for, I don't believe transmission failures are one of them. I imagine the Dexron III is more than adequate for this app.

I put in Amsoil ATF on my Saturn 5 speed's transmission with excellent results. Ran it 2 years including brutal Winters.

Highly recommend.

Well thinking about it its awful thin. And at high rpm i experience hard to shift from gear to gear . The hydraulics have been replaced by previous owner. The slave cylinder says ap on it. I'm not sure of their quality. Dexron I figured was just done to be easier for dealers to carry and better MPG ratings.

At the mileage its probably got on it now (130K maybe?),the majority of its "high friction" is long over.I would say the best fluid would be needed from the start, not 14 years in.

Actually overkill they are known for diff pin failure probably not fluid related but it is a problem. I can't get over the idea that dexron is so thin . I wanted smoothershifting my buddies Honda almost feels like a toy its so smooth. And the hard shifting thing got me thinking a better fluid would help??? Idk.

Almost 197 k actually. It needs to last another 2.5 years at least so i don't mind doing the best. And since my oil usage is fixed I have no issue running the best

any particular reason you just didnt ask a mod to move your other post on the same topic to here?

posting more than once the same topic is bad forum etiquette.

and now... a copy paste of my reply from your other post thats exactly the same as this one

the gear types used in typical MT's dont require high additives or viscosity.

IF you want to sleep better you can substitute after research

I know redline makes a 70w80 for this type of application.
or you can use certain versions of their ATF like D4/D6

Dex3 is also not a highly friction modified ATF

too much FM's and your synchro's will hate you.

The reason I didn't rand was for some reason my internet won't load that page. So as of right now i can't go to my previous thread . Not sure why. I also meant to ask you. Where would u find those red line products. And they actually make a 70w80 that will work in a Saturn? How come the cavaliers with the izuzu tranny uses syncromesh? Are there differences that warrant dexron in a Saturn and not syncromesh or a regular gear oil?

dumb guy English please:D

That's what AMSOIL's site says.

So you have the choice of their Synthetic Multi-vehicle ATF or their Torque-Drive Synthetic transmission fluid.

Ok - I will get sucked into this thread

Royal Purple sychromesh is a great fluid for use in manual transmissions where Dex III has been recommended.

Casterol Transynd or AMSOILTorque Drive are highly regarded at Saturnfans. Back in the day Mobil 1 synthetic multi vehicle was highly regarded. That is what I use in my 99 SL2 Automatic the past 120,000 miles.

If you want your Saturn to shift like a Honda...That was a funny one. Just buy a Honda.

If you want to know the best things for your Saturn, Saturnfanforums has a ton of info that you could combine with recommendations here.

redline's website says to use D4 ATF.

you can also email them if you have farther questions.

it just so happens that their new 70w80 gl-4 gear oil also falls into that range of viscosity.

Summitracing sells it as do a bunch of other places.

(9.95 shipping)+no tax
