Years ago this was the place to go for automotive maintenance info that you just couldn't find anywhere else. Been gone for a while, and I come back to find a ghost-town.

Why did it fizzle?

I joined way after you did, but BITOG has been the ONLY forum that I check on a 2X a day check. Its an awesome place with a lot of great members.

You probably rejoined when everyone is on vacation. It's usually pretty good and people are friendlier than other forums. Nobody calls people stupid for asking a simple question.

It degenerated as it went mainstream just like most forums.

Well, then go away for a while, again.

I agree with FirstNissan... it's a great place, with great members, and a lot of good information. (Other than threads like this one which are useless. Thanks for starting it by the way.

I hate to sound like a broken record but i am fine with this place. I came to learn about oil and sludge but i keep finding more and more stuff that interests me.

"ghost town?"

I usually see 85 to 110 members online at a time -- that's far from a ghost town compared to other forums that i've belonged to.

Again, being a former administrator (moderator) at another UBB 7.5 software forum i tend to be defensive of a forum and it's mods.

People have all levels of experience on this forum, from a teenager who got his first car to people who have been in the business for 40 years. And some retired from the business or the petroleum business. There are also levels of education on the forum also. Some check the forum once or twice a day and some just come to ask a question.

Some like to give opinions and other will only accept a scientific test. Most are somewhat in between. People provide opinions on things they have tried, but readers should know many things are subjective. If you say you just changed your diff. gear oil to synthetic and tell us you picked up an additional 10 MPG, then I might think you just wanted the mileage to be better.

In addition there are people who have little time and those who can spend all day on the car. Same with respect to money.

If someone asks for decent brake pads for his daily beater and only wants to spend $25, people can probably suggest some. And they will be better than whats on the vehicle. One the opposite end, someone wants new brake pads for his 1100 HP Shelby Mustang (that would be me in my dreams) and people will probably suggest Hawk pads.

So the forum welcomes all.

Like any forum, there is good and bad, but it is what you make of it. More than once I have come here looking for information and found the answer quickly when I couldn't locate the information easily elsewhere.

Everyone's vehicles are running OK? I've seen some specific problems solved, some of mine actually. BITOG still rules. No worries.

+1, I've just learned to stay out of certain areas like the oil and filter section. I already know what filters are good, what oil I am gonna run, etc. Plus some of the topics posted in those sections are ridiculously dumb.

After 10,000 questions on which oil is better, people loose interest.

I also notice the 'one-upper' folks like to argue and debate for silly things.

What is a broken record?? Sorry I just had to say that.

More like 5000 questions.

Yeah but what about the "two-upper" and "three-upper" folks?

(Note this is an intentionally ironic post)
