What weight oil do you use in winter?

0W-20 year around in both Impreza's and CRV with the exception of some Valvoline Restore and Protect I have in 5W-20.

5w because I always use it. If I lived way up north I'd probably use 0w

A COLD night here is 15f
An average January night here is 30ish

0W-30 year round in both my vehicles. Mobil 1 ESP in the Grand Cherokee and HPL Euro in the GTI. Nice to hear completely normal sounding cold starts from both in the recent-10F mornings

This is for our Canadian friends too. I’m using Delvac 1 5w40 in one focus and Mobil 1 0w30 in the spare 09’ Focus. The lady’s daughter now has Mobil 1 0w40 in it with prime guard filter.


Dad used to use 15w40 in his stuff even in winter. Not everything was garaged either.

My current fill is 0w-40 Royal Purple. Prior I used a lot of Mobil 1 0w-40.
This is in various Nissan V6s and V8s
