What was the oil type and grade you ever used?

'69 Ford ranchero (this was about 1978), and I used Exxon Extra 10w30. Broke it in after a short-block swap with Exxon Plus SAE 30, though.

My first vehicle was a 96' Chevy Silverado and I used PYB 10w30 & a MicroGard oil filter. This was only 4 years ago

I remember putting cans of Quaker State HD30 in our 69 VW bug. No filter.

All the other cars got Pennzoil 10w40, my dad was and still is a big Pennzoil fan. My own car got the Pennzoil 10w40 AND a can of STP cause Richard Petty said it was good! Filters would have been orange Frams.

Some of those South Dakota winter starts were just brutal on 10w40 but a thinner oil never occurred to us.

My first car was a 12 year old 1947 chevy. Dad was running a sinclair station, so I used sinclair #30 in the summer, and 20 in the spring, and 10 in the winter. It of course had a by-pass filter, and it got changed every other oil change with a fram.

Cam2 20w50 Racing oil in the 327 V8 Vega that my brother and I built in 1978. It really didn't need it because it wasn't a racing engine, but we were teenagers.

Used Sohio Multron 10w40 in my 1975 Vega go-to-college car when it was burning oil at a quart per 100 miles. That was dad's go-to oil during the 70's, and he had a 55-gal drum of it. Don't really remember what I ran in it after we rebuilt it, but it might have been Multron. ARCO Graphite was the oil I ran in it when I started buying my own oil later on.

Valvoline Turbo V in my first new dealer-bought car in 1985, a Pontiac Sunbird Turbo. Switched over to Mobil 1 5w30 probably in 1987. Ran the M1 until I traded it in 1999.

Holden Torana with a 138 c.i. straight 6

Valvoline XLD 20W50 and Ryco Z30 filter.

(actually first two fills were 20W40 recycled no-name to get the kero/diesel out of it after I scraped all the sludge out of it)

First car was a 1986 Ford Thunderbird with the 3.8 V6 engine and a 3 speed automatic transmission. 125 Horse power and lousy MPG on the highway due to lack of an overdrive.

Always got Castrol 10W30 and a Fram filter (local quick lube place) every 3000 miles, as that was what the oil change sticker said and at 16 I didn't know any different/better.

Sears Spectrum 20w-20 detergent bought in the bulk tank they had in the Sears garage, because it was cheaper. Used it in 1965 Rambler Classic two door three speed w/overdrive. This was good oil, made several cross country trips, used no oil whatsoever, and the engine was so smooth and quiet at idle you could not tell it was on. Passengers said my engine was off. Then for my 65 Honda motorcycle which I bought new when it was a small one room motorcycle shop, now it is a huge Honda dealership, QS 30 detergent. My friend said use non detergent because detergent is no good for motorcycle engines, which even then was low grade oil, but I went by the manual.

I ran Chevron Supreme 10w-30 in my second car, Target used to carry it for $0.79 a quart in 1991!

Mobil 1 and Pennzoil Platinum 5W30 for my Chevy Uplander and Acura RDX back in 2006/7. M1 10W30 and M1 filter for my S2K. I miss all those cars.

'64 Chevy Impala, in 1977, with 80013 miles. Was actually a "little old lady" car that saw exactly one highway trip in its life. First short oil change produced oil-based mud! Burned a quart every 300 miles. Bought cheap brand name HD40 by the case, threw in a quart at every fill-up. Even started up at -10F a few times. Cartridge filter brand unknown. Ran that beast for two years and another 20,000 miles before I scrapped it. Not bad for $250 and another few hundred for tires, shocks, brakes, gaskets.

1985 Buick Skyhawk I bought in 1994.

Took it to Mr. Lube every 3k like clockwork for their regular oil change using Castrol GTX 5W-30 and a Fram filter. Did that for the whole 2 years I had it.
