What was the first car you worked on regularly?

1990 Mitsubishi Mirage with the 1.5 SOHC , 3 valve per cyl engine.
Like this one below.
Car ended up going 312k miles before it gave out.

What year?
98 99 dont remember which...... why?

it was not the first car i worked on, buf the one that reached mileage such that i had to work on it " regularly" is a loose statement. 230+ k when totalled

1965 Mercury half ton. It was an old fuel truck on the farm, formerly a CN Rail truck.

I decided to rebuild the motor in 1997, simply to learn how to do it. To illustrate where I started, I accidentally drained the transmission instead of the engine oil then it all spilled out when I had the engine out and turned it over on the stand!

My first car, a 1960 Ford Falcon 4 door sedan with the 144 ci inline 6 and a 3 speed on the Colum. I loved that car. Easy to work on and cheap to maintain.

Year, make , model, engine....just usual car stuff....
I took care of 2 XJ's ('88 & '99)
THE thing I liked most was that 1 gallon of ATF drained when you undid the plug.
At auto parts stores, the name of the car had to be, "Not a Grand Cherokee, just a Cherokee".
yeah, if i could snap my fingers and have one vehicle appear, and it would be the last vehicle i ever drove, i think i would choose the xj......the standard distributor type non coil over plug type. i drove that thing all over as a daily and took it off road, it was totalled with over 230k and ran like new.

i chabged plugs every 10k champion copper only. changed cap every 30k along with all driveline fluids oil every 3k.....wirh the cheapest stuff gtx and supertech if i remember right. i did use m1 for gear oil though.

in the span i had it, i changed the water pump. i want to say maybe 180k i drove it there or about

overall i would put it up against any landcruiser or 4 runner.

pity they are nearly all dead now, and if not a fortune.

1985 Buick Skyhawk.
I didn’t do mechanical repairs to it bc didn’t have a place to do them, BUT I tried my hand at bodywork on it to get rid of the door rust it had starting.
I actually made it a lot worse, and I learned good body repair is an art you have to be good at!

The first car I regularly worked on was my grandpa's 1980 Rabbit that he gave me when I turned 15 in 1991. I also maintained my mom's B4 Passat. My dad only let me wash his cars. :cautious:
My first car was a 1982 Honda Accord hatchback silver with a red interior 2-door. I didn't tinker much as eventually the head gasket let go. My 1984 Honda Accord four-door my dad helped me install a cd player, fog lights, and diagnose a short in the horn. My 1997 Geo Prizm I learned to change brake pads, gear oil, brake fluid, valve cover gaskets, the works.

The first car I owned and maintained was my ‘66 Impala sedan I drove in high school in 1980 - 81. With some help from Dad I learned how to do tune-ups and basic car maintenance on the 283 with power glide. I spent every cent I had to put a Pioneer stereo in. It probably cost as much as the car did! Lucky it wasn’t stolen.
