Amsoil and Redline is good stuff but a bit pricey for the amount you need to do a total fluid exchange.
A cheaper alternative and good quality is Valvoline PS fluid in the white bottle.
I use it in my 3800 gen II cars without issue for the last 5 yrs. Nice and quiet.

Really its not mentioned anywhere in the OM?

Ive seen ATF mentioned more than once, but every GM Ive ever worked on require PSF with a specific GM part number.

GM PS pumps dont care, "power steering fluid", ATF, whatever, it would probably work fine on tractor hydraulic oil or even 5w30 engine oil.

Most of em run on some sort of watery black stuff that was once one of the above just fine. Anything fresh is an improvement!

I've used Valvoline PSF or Redline PSF or various no-name PSF's in GM pumps with good success. I stick with Redline for my wagon because it seems to be happier in cold weather and my Grand Prix which probably has the same pump as yours (3800) seems perfectly happy with the Valvoline and I've been using it or a variation of Valvoline PSF's for the last 190k miles. Most GM's do not specify an ATF but I've heard of plenty of people that use ATF. They almost always specify a GM part # or a fluid that meets a particular GM spec. #. Most power steering fluids meet that spec. I'm sure it is in your owners manual if you look hard enough.

I've had good success with the Valvoline White Bottle PSF in my '05 Buick Century - just use a turkey baster to remove the old and then refill the same ammount .
