It would seem that witrh 3K-4K OCI's , I can get away with using just about any Group-4/SM rated oil. Are there any oils out that that you guys feel strongly are N.I.M.E. (Not In My Engine!!!) oils that you would never even consider using?

"Exxon dino will make your engine consume oil"

Exxon made enough money/profit...use another brand.

I got 190,000 out of a car using a steady diet of pennzoil and fram filters. The car was still running great when my nephew wrecked it. Ive heard people say pennzoil sludges, valvoline sludges.... There was probably other variables invloved that caused the sludging than just the oil brand. Ive used pennzoil in other cars too and never had a problem. Some engines are prone to it just as some are prone to trans failure or other problems. Everyone has their favorites I guess.

Coastal is the only oil over the last 5 years to have been audited and discovered "out of grade", IOW not matching the label specs.

10w30 was "mistakenly" bottled as 5w30. Of course it's cheaper and easier to make 10w30 so I'm suspect of their QC.

One of the Carolinas has a department that randomly audits motor oil purchased off the shelf for quality. Though I don't pay taxes down there, thanks guys!

Coastal is the only API labelled stuff I wouldn't use.

This has been covered before:

I saw oil in a "DRUG MART" up here. 10W40, API SA rated!!!!!!????????????
Took a picture of it, might post it if I get the time.

Honda's own brand oil (its overpriced and probably the same as Exxon Superflo). This applies to just about any carmakers own brand oil. Honda is particularly annoying as they push their own brand only.

I like you, change my oil often as well. But as you stated, I also enjoy doing so. So, synthetic would not be good for me to use.
It's sort of funny that you just started using Havline. Our stories sort of paralell one another. I to just gave Havoline a shot as well in both my vehicles. Yet I still have and always will have this loyalty to Valvoline A/C, and the only reason is that when I bought my first car, it's all I ever used in it. I NEVER had and oil related problem in that Chev Cavelier up 209k on Val A/C when I gave the car away to a needy family. I have no date or any other technical reasons for preferring Valvoline All Climate other than that. I also like Castrol, but their 1 qt bottles **** me off due to not having a window on the side. I'm anal that way. LOL.

With that OCI and just normal street driving, I'd say go with the cheapest API-certified oil that you can find.

Chevron is on sale at Checkers right now for $0.99/qt. Plus there's a mail-in rebate that'll bring the price all the way down to $0.59.
