What oil if I can't get Mobile?????

Hi guys, my wife's 2005 Honda Accord OCI is coming up soon. We run 10,000 mile OCI's with Mobil 1 5w-20 and Mobil EP Filter. I have been checking lately after reading about Mobil changes and depletions since Katrina, and I haven't been able to find any Mobil 1 5w-20!!!!

So, my question is what SYNTHETIC 5w-20 is just as good and can go 10,000 safely that I can use until Mobil comes back to me?

If I could not get Mobil 1 5w20, I would probably use Pennzoil Platinum or Redline 5w20. Redline is pretty expensive at $7.99qt, but would hold up well at your 10k OCI. I don't use Pennzoil, but would use it if that was my only choice and was available.

Not an answer to your question but Havoline 5w20 conventional and LC (LubeControl20) should get you fairly close to the OCI you want, especially with a couple top-offs. If it must be synthetic I also have heard good things about Pennzoil but have never tried it.

Pretty much any 5W-20 oil works just fine for a 10k OCI in a 2005 Accord.

"Mobile 1" -- is that a local civic brand of oil sold in a certain town in the south of Alabama?

I have a 2003 Accord and switched from Mobil 1 5w20 to Motorcraft 5w20 4000 miles ago.I use Wix Filters. The oil appears much cleaner and the engine performs just fine. I plan to have a used oil analysis at 5000 miles.

IMHO there are conventional oils that are better performers than M1...Chevron/Havoline being 2 of them.

I don't know, but they GUARANTEE it.
You going to trust your engine to an oil that will last 7500 miles with no guarantee? Havoline will do that, but can you trust it with no written GUARANTEE? Hence, the reason Mobil 7500 is better.

read the gurantees fine print and theres plenty of cars I know that would deplete the additives in the mobil 7500 like my mom's sludge happy camry. No way mobil would gurantee that car, but for my new scion or my g/f's civic I'm sure mobil will have no issues.


anyway how long oil last has a lot to do with how the engine is made. Honda civics are built to be extremely easy on oil and require 10,000 mile OCI's according to my girlfriends 05' civic ex manual...

and thats on conventional oil...

FYI, I have a 2002 Honda CR-V and for about the first year I owned it, I never could find 5W20 or 0W20 (M1). I just used 5W30 and never, ever had a problem If you HAVE to have M1, 5W30 isn't going to kill ya.

Yep, you can safely use Xw30 at the expense of .5-1 mpg if that.
And your engine will probably like it more than 5w20.
German Castrol (GC) 0w30 will always last you as long as Mobil 1 or longer.
