Can a snake person identify this snake? My gardener found this snake in some of the planting beds in DE.
Yes, i could very well be this.My guess based on the shape of the head and fat body relative is the head is it's an Eastern Hognose.
Yup we have its cousin Southern Spotted Leavemealone Snake in Texas. I like and respect snakes from a distance, fascinating animals.It could be a Northern Spotted Leavemealone Snake.
This is a good picture. The snake looks like its ready to shed. Another difference between ribbon and garter is that the side strips of a garter run on scale rows 2 and 3. You can see that in this pic. On a ribbon they're 3 and 4.Ribbon snakes are long/slender and stronger colors. I have had a couple hog nosed in some thick ivy that looked similar … but bigger head and stronger color. This picture is an Eastern Garter Snake:

That is what it appears to be, they are robust creatures! Couple living happily at our Rod & Gun Club. Non venomous, harmless unless provoked...leave them be.Previous home owner said it was northern water snake. Thick body.
