What is your idea of a vacation

I like long road trips, when we have the time to do it.
It is fun to drive a really long way, as long as you have the time to stop and admire the attractions along the way.
We have come to really like getting out of OH during the winter.
This usually means either Mexico or the Caribbean, often a cruise.
I am currently planning a December trip for my wife and I.
We will probably take a cruise.

What do all of you like to do on vacation?

Mama Bear and I just returned from our yearly color tour of Northern Ontario. THIS is what we like to do each fall.... very relaxing and serene.

For me a vacation is lying on a beach in hot weather sippin' on a good cold drink like a beer.

I love Cuba, but any hot beach will do...

My partner is the explorer type and wants to sight-see and take pictures of everything... I could care less...

Getting together with a group of friends WITHOUT CHILDREN and going camping beside some water that you can fish in. Add a big fire and a bottle of whiskey. This is what me and my wife love more than anything. Going camping and fishing in the middle of nature with good company for a week is good for the soul.

Any trip that it's only purpose is just to go there, no reunions, visiting family, etc. I like to adventure, for me sitting on the beach is not enjoyable, in fact I prefer the coastline where there are no beaches.
I love Camping in the mountains.

Going home to Germany every year is my ideal vacation.Drive to Switzerland and go through the alps on the bike and drive my car at normal speeds,visit my family and speak my native language.
Unfortunately the miserable tax code on small business prevents me from going home permanently for the next 10 years if i want to retire at 62 with a little more than social security.

The wife and I like to take several small vacations throughout the year rather than a big vacation all at once. It could be anything...a big city we've never been to, a quiet beachside b&b somewhere, a waterpark or amusement park...usually we just take a friday off (3 days is plenty) to make it work.

And, its not nearly as hard on the finances to do it this way. Most of the time we don't even have to save up or put anything on the credit card. Minimal time spent planning also, just get in the car and go.

We like amusement parks. We've been to Hershey, Cedar Point, Williamsburg - Busch Garden, Orlando (couple times). This is usually 1x/year. We've been to the Bahamas a couple times but it was hit/miss. Hawaii is always good.

As a kid we drove and drove and drove and drove and drove some more ... so now I like to go to a campground and STAY. Swimming, drinking beer around the fire, mountain biking, cooking and eating out in the forest.

At this point in my life I think the Corona commercial suits me. I don't drink ..but I can handle the rest of it.

In the past I would have liked to have done more of the wilderness touring I did as a kid and a teenager/early 20's. I don't think I'd enjoy climbing Mt. Katahdin or doing the Allagash at this age.
