What Is Your Excuse?

My neighborhood is now a bunch of old folks.
We all work very hard. A couple of weeks ago we had a storm and I lost eight trees and they fell in my field.
A mess with huge fox grape vines. I had a 78 year old neighbor from a few hundred yards away show up later in the day with a tractor to help me clean up. He said he hated to see me struggle with it. Nice guy.

Just now I took these pictures through my shop window. So they are not as clear because of the screen.
This guy helped me out when I had heart surgery in 2015 by mowing my lawn for a month. We all worked the weekend.
He is 74 years old and yes big deal right? Well that ain't his wife next to him. That is his 97 year old Mom. Yeah 97!

The last three days she put in about 18 hours weeding the garden and she pushes her son to the limit.

So no excuses on how I feel too bad to work...........

Nice they are still active at that age.

Most people past 70 become a couch potato and go down hill very quickly.

I have a neigbor...well 1/2 mile down the road who is 83 and is outside every day. Bailing hay, tending to cattle, pressure washing is super long driveway...we talk a few minutes almost every day I drive by.

Here the working crowd is 50-97
You never see a kid outside except getting off the school bus.

my 94 year old neighbour still gets up on his 4 in 12 roof to blow the leaves off with the leaf blower. Makes us nervous, but better to go with a story versus to die watching Jeopardy.

I'm 79 and take care of my yard and my own oil changes on my car and riding mower. I was under the sink removing and replacing a faucet under the kitchen sink. I had a difficult time getting to stand up so, those types of jobs may be coming to an end but, not this year ) Ed

Staying active is the key, but I have to spend my time on something other than yard work- that's my textbook definition of H*ll.

My 87 yr old neighbor is always outside doing something. She's a real sweetheart, too.

I hope I'm that active in my old age.

They are from a different era, and it is always refreshing to meet people like this. My grandma passed away a few years ago, she was a few months away from 90. The most helpful, caring, and classy person I had ever met. I was raised in a similar way, and it is strange how these days when you try to help someone they are confused.

I've held the door for people who became very confused as to why I was doing it. Scary...

I'd love to be able to be outside and make the yards look great, but it's 110 degrees outside. No way!

My grandfather had a stroke while mowing the lawn at age 85ish...stroke didn't kill him, it just gave him double vision so he wore an eye patch the rest of his life, alternating right to left every hour or so. Either eye worked, just not in unison.

We buried a man recently who was 93 when he died...from a fall. He was on the 3rd story of his old house, working on some flashing that had come loose, and took a tumble.

Stubborn old Germans can be like that sometimes.

My grandfather push mower his lawn and shoveled his snow until the end in his 90s. Keeping active in mind and body is so critical. Too many seek "luxury" and laziness far before 70.

If I had to wager,
my experience would tell me those older ladies (in the photos) were German.
Germans have that work ethic.

Disagree. That looks like a US wheelbarrow in the picture.
