What is up with Purolator?

I have a quaker state that I recently purchased and the threads on it were filthy with bits of metal everywhere. I have blown it out and I think most of the metal should be gone. No paint issues.

I posted a thread about not too long ago on this problem and Gary and I pondered wildly for quite awhile... Just to get to the conclusion from all my observations, this is what appears to be the issue: used 2 wix/napa filters that had higher startup pressure during mornings vs pureones. Didnt use it back-to-back. Went with one, then switch off to pureone, then back to napagold, then back to pureone. Used same weight oil GC 0w-30 throughout. Weather doesnt affect the pressure at all. I have proven this many times already with temperature ranging from 25F to 70F from warm Oct.- cold Dec. This is not recent, it's been like this since day 1 of using pureone. I have to look back at my book for the psi number, but i assume lower pressure is better? Some Titan owners experience this problem too when switching off their pureone to a wix or vice versa. Im just wondering if any of you have this similar situation or is it just me and the Titan that does it...

Why not use the factory filter one time - see what the needle on the gauge reads - then use an aftermarket filter that closely matches the gauge reading. Odds are, that would be closest to the correct pressure.

It's a huge problem with the Purolators I've gotten, where as the Supertechs have no actual metal shavings. There is a hint of fine dust like metal if you wipe the threads on the Supertechs I've gotten, but the Purolators are down right nasty. There were shavings at least like a 20th of an inch big or maybe even larger on some of them.

Just slapped one on the Saturn (Purolator PP). It was a recent build too...didn't notice anything abnormal.

Then again, I'm the type that'll use it and deal with it later if something isn't right because the price was too good.

I looked at several at AA today...no shavings or paint problems, but some had what appeared to be glue oozing around the inside of the base. Not a good sign.
