This came up on a local forum I'm part of... any ideas of what this could have came from? the valve relief and back section are extremely interesting in design and have me curious...

2 thin rings. No oil ring. Possible 2 stroke. Odd shape for a compressor piston. Tiny piston pin, no retainer grooves, could mean low speed operation........ compressor.

EDIT: Maybe

I'm just hoping that someone can identify where its from to satisfy my curiosity...

I've torn a part a few old Evinrude/Johnson outboards and they have pistons exactly like that.

I would have thought that the sharp edges would cause preignition and detonation in a gasoline engine. On high compression engines, you usually smooth out the valve relief ridges to prevent hot spot detonation. Is that not a problem in two cycle?
