Or is it just called...dexos 1?

My buddy and I are looking for oils at the auto parts stores that meet dexos 1. He has just purchaced an Equinox 4 cyl which calls for dexos 1 and we haven't found an oil, dino or syn that states on the label...Meets dexos 1!

Or, it there a GM# XXXX that we should be looking for?

Dexos 1 is just a specification. Some oil makers aren't paying the license fee to GM to put the 'Dexos approved' sign on the label.
Any name brand synthetic will exceed the Dexos spec..
Dexos calls for a strong 'blend', so some 'blends', even brand name ones, aren't quite 'strong' enough.

Google "dexos 1 motor oil". GM has a list of approved oils that meet the spec. There is a pic on BITOG showing the GM bottle that says "semi synthetic". I believe the poster said the price was $5.68/qt or thereabout. In a car under warranty I would certainly use the "approved" product.FWIW-Oldtommy

i would put in supertech if i felt like it...i have a 2009 pontiac and i am running G oil in it now

For reference M1 5w30 will have a green Dexos emblem on it towards the bottom of the front label..

I'm sure you can find those somewhere.

Our eyes are getting that bad! Yes, we have all 3 of those oils at any store in my area. We couldn't see "GM dexos 1" on the labels of any of the 3 oils in 5W30. Maybe old stock but I doubt it!(AAP, PB's, W*M). We did see on the back labes of all 3 oils, two GM spec numbers...Meets GM# XXXX and GM# XXXX but, no dexos 1.

That's why I was asking wheather the labes should say "dexos 1"(emblem) or is there a GM# XXXX that represents dexos 1

If dexos1 is not available, acceptable substitute engine oil for 2011 models includes:
· SAE-5w30 viscosity grade oil displaying the API Starburst symbol for all 2011 model year vehicles with naturally-aspirated engines, except Corvette, Camaro SS (with LS3 engine) and CTS-V
· SAE 5w30 viscosity grade oil meeting the GM4718M specification (such as Mobil 1 Full Synthetic) for 2011 model year Corvette, Camaro SS (with LS3) engine, CTS-V and vehicles with turbocharged engines

But while new probably still better to use the speced oil.

I haven't seen PP or QSUD with the dexos symbol on the packaging yet, but both had a July 2010 press release saying their respective oils were dexos approved and exceeded the dexos spec. They just haven't gotten it on the bottles yet.

As stated the M1 and M1EP product has within the last month starting showing up on my local shelves with the logo on the label.
