What is "Plan B" if I can't get Amsoil Z-Rod for My 1990 Corvette ZR-1.

I think if OP was originally seeking Amsoil, he should check out http://www.hplubricants.com or message the owner @High Performance Lubricants about which exact product to order something equivalent or better. I'm sure they would be happy to fill the order.

Their oils meet or beat A40 as well.

The Walmart available oils mentioned should be fine as well but I heard Amsoil.

OP also mentioned being in Canada as to availability.

For Euro oils: https://www.hplubricants.com/hp-synthetic-motor-oil-2-2/

High Performance Lubricants’ Euro passenger car engine oil is a multi-synthetic high performance motor oil made with the best choices of additive chemistry. This series takes advantage of high quality PAO base oils delivering superb pour points as well as an advanced VI Improver that has superior shear stability index. These oils are formulated with specifically chosen esters that can help minimize intake valve deposits, maintain clean engines, and provide elastomer compatibility. HPL Euro PCMO is formulated with extra anti-wear and antioxidant additives to minimize wear while offering an extended oil life compared to other motor oils. These premium oils are not something you will find on the shelf of a discount retailer. If you are a person looking for a product that will outperform traditional mineral and synthetic oils our products will be a perfect fit for you.

They have a separate distributor page for purchasing. The link is in the product description link.

They also have three different tiers of "regular" or non-Euro PCMO.. all of which are phenomenal.

My 1990 Corvette ZR-1 with the Lotus designed LT5 will be going in for some servicing the first of next week, and I won't be able to get my usual Amsoil Z-Rod 10W-30 by then. The LT5 wants its high ZDDP levels, so standard oils in the 800-900 range won't work.

I was looking for the High Mileage Mobil 1 at the local Wal-Mart, and all they had was 0-20 and 5-30.

Being in Canada, some of the smaller brands that can be bought in the US aren't easily available up here.

Any plan B recommendations? Oils that would do lesser harm?

Liqui Moly MoS2 Anti-Friction 10W-40 has been recommended as a viable option, but I'm not that familiar with it. Seems the ZDDP levels are good in it.

That is a little known Supercar. Baddest car on earth in 1990, and still pretty bad ass.

I suggest you sell it to me, I will take care of it. 30K$????

Valvoline Racing 10w30 synthetic can usually be found at the parts stores. Hendrick motor sports uses Valvoline racing 10w30 in Nascars..........100% verified.

Mobil 1 0w40 is “PLAN B”. Keep things simple, not complicated

Back on now. :)

I heard that Mobil 1 dropped the Zinc in the FS European Car Formula. Any truth to this?
I thought we all understood that ZDDP is not the only thing that matters, that formulations are more advanced and complicated than ever, and that approvals and performance is what we should be looking at?

What about antimony, moly, or other friction modifiers?

ZDDP is not the be-all end-all it once was.
That’s the rub. Just as ZDDP was emerging from the shadows and becoming more hyped than ever, the need and benefit of it was dwindling.

There’s nothing more powerful than the myth that you need a “high zinc” oil.

Yet if you ask anyone to point to a particular case where a production engine has failed because it used a newer oil spec, it will be crickets. This is because every API spec is required to surpass and include all prior performance specs.

Modern formulations are MORE effective despite the lower ZDDP levels. LSJr made several videos on this, especially comparing the newer VR1 and M1 15w50 oils to their higher calcium, higher ZDDP ancestors. Check them out.

You can also play chemist and add a ZDDP additive product. There are probably suitable SG rated oils out there.
I think 1200 - 1300 ppm was the spec back then.

That's a valuable engine, I don't blame you for taking care of it. It pulled like the L98, up to 4500 RPM, where the L98 dropped off. Then it screamed! I remember the 1st one I drove... Wow!

Warren Distribution is very forthcoming with their info on their Mag1 site, which is what Supertech is. Crazy it's priced at $19.77 Canadian dollars for 5L. :D

sorry, didn't catch at first that this was a multi- year old thread, but I know down here in the states Warren makes Supertech, but i thought in Canada it was Safety-Kleen re-refined oil? Of course I was told that by someone on here SEVERAL years ago... ( maybe 2016?)

and reading through this... the one that kept popping up in my head ( Don't know about Availability in the GWN) is Driven Racing oil...

I put M1 Supercar 0W-40 in my ZR-1 and I sleep well at night.

Not an easy oil to find in Canada.

M1 0W-40 is easy, plentiful and cheap in Canada at Canadian Tire.
Pennzoil Euro 5w-40 is cheap and plentiful in Canada at Walmart ($34.97/5L) and Canadian Tire
Castrol has 0W-40 at Canadian Tire on sale every few weeks.
Motul is fairly easy to find. PartSource usually has it.
Redline is fairly easy to find but $$$.
Amsoil is easy to get in Canada direct.

if they did, who cares? Oils are can only be assessed based on the performance of the full formula.

You can't judge a pie from the quality of the lard in the crust. You judge a pie by eating it.
My cholesterol went up 5 just reading “quality of the lard” … but that won’t stop me from checking out the bakery 😷
