What happend to RLI

I was just wondering. I've been using it for 9 months or so and see no problems in three vehicles. There were a lot of posts at one time and I just have not seen anything for a while. There was one user from RI that had an RS4 that used a special RLI blend, a 5w-40 with good results but nothing from him in a while. Others, too. Lots of others, and then nothing. I wonder if other users of the product will chime in. I'm interested in their experience, not comments from people that have never used it.

only reason i'm not using it at present is that i'm in the arx cycle on three cars. as soon as that's done i have plenty of biosyn and plan to return to it. had used it on three cars for over a year with no issues.

Why don't you go and take a look at their Web site?

I'm guessing you haven't looked for it then.

Oh no, I did look at their website. Their engines oil were listed. If anything, you should ask cosynthetics why he believes RLI doesn't list their engine oil.

i would probably try it if there was a distributor up here in canada... it all comes down to price. i like the idea... alot. i really do. bio syn. awesome. but i'm not about to pay double for it. so if i can get it here at a REASONABLE price, then i'd be using it for sure.

AEHaas: you are awesome. i've never seen such a bold statement. that was great. i loved it.

I talked with Mark Thomas the Alcohol Funny Car guy that's on the RLI web site, at one the drag race events last year. He said that RLI oil eliminated all his lubrication problems, mainly valve train wear. He said that components are lasting much longer and it's saved him a lot of money in not replacing some parts every run or every event. Funny thing is that I talked with three of his competitors that rarely if every beat and they say that they would never pour that f'n corn oil in their engines. They say that they spend a lot of time, effort and money in their engine building programs and if Mark want to p#ss away his money that's his business. After a run down the quarter mile those other guys are thrashing away in the pits working like crazy rebuilding their engine for the next round. Mark Thomas is working but it's organized, relaxed and does not have the look of a fire drill. Then they finally match up against Mark and get beaten, but one thing is for sure. They are not going to use that darn corn oil in their engines. No sir. These guys are smart.

I've heard the same thing from other racers. They say what they need to say since they are sponsored. I talked to Larry Morgan when he was in town (since he is from this area) and when asked about oil all he talked about was Castrol this and Castrol that. It's nothing but a big commercial.

What works for racers may or may not work for us. What matters is whether the oil you run works for you and your car. We all have our favorites.

Finally found the oil on their site. I was too quick to click. I would click the store link at the top as soon as I got to the site. Their motor oil is in a different store away from their other products.

Any idea why no one else is pursuing bio syn oil? Or are there others that I don't know about? Seems like a good idea.

Ali, very anxious to hear what you think of the RLI. I have a '08 BMW M3 coming and am leaning towards the RLI or the Lubromoly 5w-40. I have been slightly "converted" by your online papers about thin oils and flow. I've come to the same conclusion that 10w-60 oil is simply too thick for any engine.

I'm using RLI's HD 10W30 SHP in my 2001 I30. It's been in for four months and I'll run it until next December, at which point I'll have a UOA done by Terry Dyson. No issues at this point, nor do I expect any.
