What filter would you use?

I use M1 5w-30 in a 2001 Pathfinder and 2003 4-Runner. M1 10w-30 in 1996 Rav4. Oil and filter changes every 6 months with OCI mileage between 4,000 and 7,000 miles depending on the vehicle.

I am in the same boat you are. I run Mobil 1 5w30 and choose Purolator Pure One filters because they were reported to filter slightly better than M1 filters and cost less.

After seeing ekpolk's UOA with particle count it is hard for me to believe the Pure One (or any filter) will do much better than the M1. Someone posted a comparitive UOA (Mobil 1 and Pure One) and Mobil 1 was a little better.

After my stock of Pure Ones is gone I will go with Mobil 1 unless I see some data to indicate there is a comparable filter in the market.

I would take anything out of elkpolks UOA until you see another from the same car with a different filter. For all we know this could be the results you get with all filters.

I agree

My 2005 BMW 530i has just a paper element, not metal jacket spin on type. You just unscrew the container and drop it in from the top of the engine, no muss, no fuss. I bought MANN filters (GERMAN). Easiest filter change you will ever make. I've heard that other manufacturers might eventually go to this set up. It sure makes it easy.
