What engine is easiest on oil?

LExus and Toyota V8's!!! I doubt you can find a design that is as consistently low in terms of wear. Then you have NVH noise,vibration and harshness wich is also a strong point for the Toyota/Lexus V8's. My second choice would probably be Audi but I am not pleased with some of the gimby seal issues that Audi has had lately.

Now if we are talking about makes that are either domestic or used to be domestic I would pick the Dodge 4.7V8 or the Buick 3.8V6.

The lowly Ford Focus Zetec consistently shows very low wear numbers.
You don't have to pay big bucks to get a low wearing motor.

My 2001 Grand Prix GT w/ the 3800 seriesII is very easy on oil and has 10w30 on the cap. My 2000 Explore w/ the 5.0 pushrod is also easy on the oil.

I agree, I've had lots experiance with both, going back to the late 60s, however, I think the 3.3 pushrod engine is even better. I have one right now with 201K on it and it is clean inside.

I vote for the lowly 305 Chevy from 1984-1995, used in gm b bodies, g bodies, trucks, vans, there was so many used and I've heard tons of high mileage 305 stories. Some over 1,000,000 miles.

Also my uncle had a 350 Olds in a 78 Delta 88, he put almost 300k miles on it and it still didn't use a drop of oil between 3k oci's and he always drove hard.

A 305 is VERY much just a 350 with a smaller bore.

Ahhhh, Keith, you're not letting owner-loyalty partisanship influence your thoughts are you?

Of course I wouldn't do that, nevertheless, I have to vote for the Toyota V-8. The 3800 is a fantastic engine, and does well in the used oil analysis, but just not as well as the 2UZ-FE does. Even when I pushed the OCI out to 13 months and 10k miles, the oil still looked pretty much new.

I consider the Toyota 1ZZFE as easy on oil. Nice running engine and goes quite a while for the OCI on a dino. At the rate I'm going, I'm sure I'll get 250
-300k on the engine

I have NOT found the older (90-97) 2.2L honda I4 to be easy on oil. the recommended 7.5k oil changes are about all I can get from a good oil. the 3800 is really easy on oil in my experience uoa has indicated my mobil 1 10W30SL changes could go to 20k miles (I've only done 15k changes to this point)

the cummins 5.9. I think from the factory the rec oil change is at 15K. plus it will last forever and is easy on oil in their oil analysis.

Old Mopar slant-6 (the 170 cu. in. is perhaps better than the 225)

Datsun/Nissan L24 (240Z inline-6, Nissan Skyline GT-R; L26 and L28 are also excellent)

Currently, the Chrysler 2-liter used in the Neon and its variants in the Stratus, PT, and vans.

GM 2.2 Ecotec. I don't have a used oil analysis to back this up. But with 6000 OCI the oil consumption is unmeasurable on the dipstick, and the oil still comes out looking fairly clean. I have two Ecotec powered cars, world beating performance by my observation. Chrysler Slant six, my dad bought a '63 Valiant for cheap with body damage. He put over 100,00, miles on it without changing either oil or filter! Added very little oil too as I remember. It was still running great when he sold it for what he gave for it. GM 4.3 (265 CID) V8, this is a very understressed SBC engine in the '93 to '95 incarnation. I also agree with the GM 3800 being easy on the oil. Both Ford and Chevy I6 engines seem to have been easy on oil by my memory. It would be interesting to see what a fresh Slant Six could do with modern oils and filters. Maybe last forever? Rickey.

something about the marketing of pickups, if you
can stick a "V8" badge on the fender, it will sell.

Hasn't GM re-introduced a straight six in some of
their SUVs? How does this engine look?
