What do you think about this part time job?

Well, just to catch anybody up on my struggle to get into the Army Reserves, it is still ongoing. My medical waiver for Radial Keratotomy eye surgery is at its last stage. The Army Surgeon General has it and is taking a long time whether to overturn the disapproval that United States Army Recruiting Command gave it. The longer it takes I guess the better the outcome may be.

I discovered a job in the Reserves while looking over the different jobs they offer. Petroleum Laboratory Specialist - They test new fuel, oil as well as old used Motor oil etc... What do you think about this job?

Sounds like a good job to me. Do they do civilian contracting for this?

In 1982, when my dad (a vietnam vet) got out, he made me promise to never sign up for the military unless drafted. He never told me why, but he must have had a good reason considering he only had a few years to go before he could retire.

Musta been an infantryman. I don't think I could recommend it either, unless you like being lied to a lot

I was in the infantry....don't remember a SINGLE fellow soldier lying to me. I HIGHLY recommend the service for all men. Teaches you many valuable lessons in life that the civilian side can take decades to learn. They have great benefits like medical/dental, PAY you to learn a skill, money for college, and provide you with a sense of duty....something HIGHLY lacking in most civilians. Opportunities like that don't always come along later in life and a young person would be foolish to not, at least, take a very close look at the military. It's a great thing to do.

While I am not quite sure what he did or was, I know he was involved in military intelligence for at least the last 3 years of his career. He was stationed in Berlin, Germany. I never really thought of him as being in the miliatry because he never wore a uniform. I do remember being confused as a child because he came home for lunch every day in a different VW Golf. The only other thing that sticks in my mind is going to the candy store and pointing at what I wanted because I couldn't speak german..

The Air Force has civilians doing this same job at some of their bases, and it pays pretty well.

Spent 21 years in the Infantry, I agree with andrews. Good place to start.
