Not to slight Johnny in the least, but he's getting more and more out of the loop as he gets deeper into retirement. Terry's info on SOPUS products is more up to date, especially since he's been doing some consulting work for Shell. He's bound by ND agreements, but every now and then he drops little clues about SOPUS oils that if you pay attention and read between the lines are priceless gems.
I just cracked open a bottle of the Formula Shell I got yesterday. This has got to be the worst smelling oil I've ever taken a whiff of. Yuk! It will make you believe that oil really is made from dead dinosaurs.
Stick your nose in my Shell oil bottle will ya. That's what you get for slighting me.
All kidding aside, G-MAN is correct. I am so far out of the loop now, I have no clue what Shell is doing. I also read between the lines when Terry speaks.
i think its a good oil for the price, i bought 6 quarts of it back when it was on sale at Menards, currently running it in my mother's car, and i just checked it today, still has good color and hasn't burned a drop.
It has low cSt at 40C which will help me since I started driving 1 mile to train station. It wont warm up to 100C hence I dont have to worry much about ATF thin 8.3 cSt. BTW, gman's link has slightly different specs than the one I posted above.. Perhaps formulashell is different from shell canada.
And that quote from Terry makes me think that the Formula Shell in Canada may not even be from Shell....I'm thinking he is referring to Petro-Canada, but have nothing concrete to prove it other than the fact that PC is a Canadian base oil maker.

"currently" using Pennzoil Conventional
"currently" using pennzoil platnum

I just switched to QS and checked the smell of it - pretty stinky too and yet it is a good oil. Maybe oil has to pass the smell test before it is considered good.
