What do YOU do with the USED OIL ?

I have a used oil burner in the little manufacturing shop I manage, so the 100 gallons or so I generate each year gets burned. I also buy used oil for $.50 a gallon from local farmers and shops.

It works out well for me, as I get cheap heat, and the farmers get a little something for the oil, plus I pick it up from them so it is less hassle.

I use it for salad dressing.
Funny thing though, I get the trots after I finish... I think it's the lettuce.

Mine goes to my work related receptacle that gets picked up by safety kleen. I would run it in my chainsaw as bar oil but it specifically recomends against it.

15 bucks to look under your car? You can do that for free.

$15 for labor to change the oil, filter and inspect. That's much cheaper than any dealer or most shops that charge book-rate.

How would the average person know what to look for under a car, outside of obvious leaks?

my wife gives it to someone who reuses for big oil furnace i assume...it is waste recycle station

I keep it in an old 5gal gas jerry can. Over the winter, I gradually add it all to my 300 gal fuel oil tank for my home.

Try putting MMO in the oil before you dump it on your salad.

But seriously, I have a 5 gallon jug and I bring it to the recycle plant.

LOL if the tide is right it ends up in CT! j/k. I bottle it up and bring it to AAP, no big deal. Years ago I gave it to a friend who heated his shop with it.

i always pull my car onto my front lawn when it's time for an oil change. After removing the drain plug, I just let all the oil pour right onto the yard. After a short time, it all gets sucked up by the ground just like a big ol' sponge. No mess to clean up. Works great!

I have an old 5 gallon container (fell off a farm truck one day), that I collect all my oil in. I then recycle it at the local county trash site, which has a huge tank for used oil.

It gets placed in the replacements oil container and thrown out with the trash for a landfill somewhere .

I was told this is a least objectionable way to deal with it but certainly not the best

I work about 1/2 mile from a recycling/transfer station and they have a big tank I can dump it in, or I just leave the bottles and they'll dump it. Or, I take it with me when I'm getting my car worked on at the local greasy garage where they let me dump it into their tank.

Some goes in the lawnmower and the rest goes along the fenceline to prevent weeds.

Seriously, my lawnmower does live on second-hand synthetic, but the rest goes to Advance or OReilly's. I do know a lot of people that use it as weed killer on farms.
