What dealers are doing to sell Hummers

If that thing actually increased mileage by 25%, you would think that G.M. would pay the $189.95 and install it at the factory.

P.B.

I don't care about mileage - what In hate about Hummers and their ilk is when they take up two parking spots!
If you wanna spend $20 to go get a gallon of milk, and need to over-compensate for some other thing lacking, then buy the Hummer.
Just go somewhere else so I can park!

$200 for a scam, guess dealers have made more money selling other useless crap.

Why stop with this device? I'm sure there are other add on products that might up the mileage even more.

They'd be better off paying for $200 worth of gas instead... Lots of manufacxturers or dealers are doing that to move units of all cars.

Then again, most non-H1 drivers (and even most of them) don have a clue anyway... so they think theyre getting value... good enough. These people will throw away their money one way or another.

Call me up at TomJones76 Industries, Inc!
For half that price (shipping and handling not included) I'll gladly mail you my patented Brick Under Throttle mechanism, guaranteed to reduce gas consumption by 25% if you're a lead-footed idiot.
Simply place the genuine Corinthian brick and secure it to your gas pedal with the included roll of Duck Brand duct tape (comes in one of our 21 colors of your choice!).
Watch your savings at the pump multiply!

Alternatively, for what a Hummer costs, you could probably throw in a Vespa scooter. "Tell your wife that if she's just going for a dozen bagels and a stick of cream cheese, ride *THIS* to the supermarket 3 blocks from the house, NOT the hummer."

Just re-read the article.
"The dealerships are charging $189.95 for the milage increaser, and Krupa says a dozen such Hummers have been sold during the promotion's first three weeks."
Wow. Twelve people who make enough money to qualify for financing on a Hummer (or pay cash) are stupid enough to go for that device.
I fix computers that help banks stay safe, and bust my butt every day. I swear, if it wasn't for fear of eternal dangnation, I'd be in the wrong business....

Did I read that article correctly? They may not honor warranties with these devices?

I read that too.
"Although GM and Hummer officials have not endorsed the aftermarket addition – even saying they may not honor warranties on altered vehicles – the promotion has helped Hummer sales at the two Detroit locations, Gary Krupa, general manager of Hummer of Novi, told the Journal."

Then again, "may" is a weasel word.
If the aftermarket item causes damaged to a warrantied part that wouldn't be caused by a stock part, it should and WILL void your warranty.
If your dealer installed it without disclaiming that it might void your warranty, I would submit that your dealer should be liable for any damages caused by this aftermarket abomination.
Thinking that ADDING AN OBSTRUCTION to an air passageway would help airflow is simply so stupid it makes my head want to explode. If anything I'd expect these things to LOWER your gas mileage.

The dealer knows better. To most dealers, customers are nothing but cash flow. You can be sure that you'll never find Diogenes at new car dealership.

Exactly what I was thinking. Inheritance? Lottery? Wheel of Fortune?
