what CAN'T be mixed?

So we know, or at least i read here that you can mix different brands of oil. What about weights? what about types such as synthetic and semi synthetic? What if i were to mix 2 brands, one being semi and one Full Synthetic but both the same weight? And like the title asks, what should NOT be mixed ?

Other than that, I don't see an issue mixing any modern oils regardless of grade, synthetic or not. The question is: what are you trying to accomplish and isn't there an oil out there that already provides you what's needed without having to mix anything?

Nothing to accomplish. Just that i have a bunch of unused oils but not enough of any one to do a complete change. But enough to do a couple changes if i mexed them all.

Current mix in my fiance's '08 Civic:

1 qt 0W-20 Edge

1 qt 5w30 G-Oil

2 qts Valvoline MaxLife 5w20

Why? It's what I had left over from previous changes. I have some RT6 that I'm actually contemplating mixing in, since I have a little less than 4 qts left of that left, too.

Current mix in my E430: 5 quarts Mobil 1 0W20 + 2 quarts Mobil 1 0W40 + 1 quart Mobil 1 15W50 + 6 oz VSOT.

Current mix in LS400 and Mercury Tracer: 3 quarts Synpower 5W20 + 2 quarts Synpower 5W30.

Mixing engine oils are okay, just don't mix other fluids, such as gear fluid or ATF or brake fluid ..., with engine oil.

My buddy had a gallon of 5w-20 GTX and one quart of 5w-20 Superflo and one quart of 5w30 peak conv. in his 2006 mustang gt. left over stuff that needed to be used. only one bottle was the "incorrect weight". i doubt the car could tell the difference. until his motor exploded. just kidding. everything went fine.

Coolant and oil. Fuel and oil. 2 stroke and 4 stroke oil. Cooking oil and motor oil. Suntan oil and motor oil. Oil of Olay and Pennzoil. Olive Oil and Bluto.

My next oil change in my van will be a mix of Toyota 0W-20 (Mobil) and Mobil 1 0W-40 for a high moly/high VI 0W-30.

I have a euro spec and API mixed in my vehicle right now. Euro does meet an API though...

5w30 PU and Pennzoil Platinum Euro 5w40

Mix, mix, mix away.. wont hurt anything as long as your not using a extreme (against recomendation) weight as the majority of the fill Like 50 or 60 wt in a 20 wt recomended engine.. that probably wouldnt be a heathy idea for the engine.
