Balding eagle! 
It's "Woody" ... these guys hammer loudly on my gutters in the spring during mating season. Guess it's a way to call out to the girls.
How big is it? Maybe a goldfinch.

My first thought was a Yellow Oriole. The black on your feather may be more distinctive.

Looks very similar . Was longer than 3 inches . Still , you may have solved the case .
