Has mechanics pay increased proportionally with shop rates? I think there's a bit of a shortage around here and I see job ads hourly rates creeping up.

Has employee pay every kept up with increases in retail pricing?
Back on topic, our labor rates at a Deere dealer in central WI are $145/hr for Turf, $165/hr for Ag/Construction, and $185/hr for service calls, plus mileage to and from.

Back in the '80s my mom worked for a CAT dealer. Even then the techs made good money for early 80s and OT was 1.5 and holidays were double time. I thought it was smart because guys with families were happy to work longer hours or do a service call on holidays.
Back then they were one of the only places that could service the "bus" motor homes, and you know those people have money -- or at least they better!!!!
I’ve found a “b” tech with a good work ethic on salary is very good. Send the odd ball diag to the dealer and the b tech can do 95% of what you need but with care and caution as they are on salary and not looking to just beat the clock.
I have a BMW/Mercedes specialist in Tacoma, WA and is $140 an hour. Not for long I'm sure...he does excellent work too and has all the proper diagnostic tools.
