I just changed my oil yesterday and put in Valvoline SP 5W30. I had enough laying around and it was time for me to get my auto rx rinse phase out of there. Not sure what I will stick to but it seems to like this oil so far.
We have a slightly modified 08 Silverado 5.3. Headers/full exhaust/little cam/CAI/catch can and a mid aggressive tune....we did a baseline UOA and of course being a new Chevy motor she was throwing wear metals like crazy...and we still had the stock air filter on it when the UOA was done....we since put a AEM CAI on....
Here is the first UOA at 20K....and as I said this UOA was with the stock air box/filter...we never did find any air leaks so we wrote it off as seals/gaskets/installation "stuff" throwing off silicon...
We started running Chevron Supreme 10-30 and Amsoil oil filters.....and are now at 33K miles....
She runs smooth as silk....gets 20+mpg on the highway and 18 around town....
We will test this run and see where we are...
I have used 5w30 Valvoline Conventional in my 08 with no complaints since I dumped the factory fill at the 1000KM mark. I was going to switch over to a syn. but Walmart had 5L jugs of Valvoline for $10.88 so I stocked up. Truck seems to like this oil just fine - good thing too since I now have 8 jugs sitting in the basement!
Honestly, whatever is on sale. Any dino or syn flavor in 5w30. I'm not loyal to any brand. Right now it's got M1 0W-30. I run the OLM to 0% with syn, or 15-20% on dino. I can't tell a meaningful difference between any of them.
I ran Mobile One 5W30, silver cap (two changes). At walmart found Q horsepower for $8 a 5 qt jug. So bought 6. Will get about 40k out of it, then see what's next on sale.
