What about these louvers?

what do you think about the louvers on this Champ XL?

Not nearly as sexy as the louvers on my XKE

I guess my experience with a 51040 I posted recently was a bit difference. Sorry for the bad pics, don't have the best phone but I think my point will come thru.

Looking down the hole you can see one row was good the rest no so much.

I have struggled to decide as well. I have a few that just don't look great, so I think I will likely not use them.

Holes over louvers make the decision much easier.

I, personlly, wouldn't buy a filter with louvers online. If I could see it in person and the price was right, I would buy it assuming all looked good.

But:

Honestly, I haven't seen any evidence that these have caused issues? How many of these come out of the box at the lube and boooobs and spun on without a glance? I bet a lot that we would freak out about here on BITOG. These louvers would have to be shut pretty tight for a positive displacement pump to not be able to push oil through. If they were, filter would just be in bypass (hopefully anyway....) Not ideal obviously, but at least nothing would blow up. I bet the chances of a filter having all the louvers closed for that to happen is small. Really small.

How would you know there was an issue? It would simply run in bypass all the time.

Exactly. You wouldn't know. That's why I wouldn't buy a louvered filter online.
