What $850k USD buys in Redding, CA

Very nice house at the pricepoint of $850k USD. Redding is a safe community, surrounded by three large lakes, all very easy to access and boat and fish. World class landscape, along with warmer weather than the California coasts. Redding even has a Costco. Great dining, outstanding healthcare, and a small airport with nonstop commuter flights to places like Denver.

If one can overlook/ live with some of the very strong California issues--- Redding surely seems like a great place to retire.

What makes this home unique is that it is in a non HOA subdivision, but offers great privacy and modern features, and super location, ayt the $850k USD California pricepoint. Decorating is wacky, but that is easy to address.

$8k in property taxes isn't too bad. But those high ceilings, wouldn't that be a bear to heat in winter? Single level living though, that is nice. No basement? they must do things differen there.

This is on 3.92 acres? maybe it includes some area that wasn't cultivated. Must have a sprinkler system in there, with that kind of green.

I walked this property, yes if the lot size is accurate the lot has much unusable portions. Unless one wants a tiered garden.

I think the small outside back living area is a negative to some, especially families with children. For old folks, awesome views, no need for a larger backyard.

House is natural gas, and constructed in 2019, so assuming windows and insulation up to spec, heating bill should be minimal to.modest. our current home has like construction, like temperatures, and natural gas. We pay under $50 per month to heat in the winter. Natural gas is a lifesaver for heating costs.

One thing I learned, get a few miles outside of the Redding city limits, and one faces very significant challenges getting a homeowner insurance policy because if wildfires. That is new to me as part of a decision making process for purchasing a home.

The interweb says the Redding Median income is $70K. So this is clearly a place for someone bringing there money from elsewhere, likely a wealthy retiree. Since most wealthy people are trying to leave California before they enact a wealth tax, my guess is the seller will take less. :ROFLMAO:

lol the proposed wealth tax kicks in at a billion dollars in assets, I don't think anyone with a billion dollars is buying that little shack.
 
When searching for a retirement home, this really needs to be at the top of the list of requirements. It seems a lot of older people just don't consider this and end up an hour+ from healthcare facilities and even longer if they need to see a specialist.
Yep. I am in a ;place with a 5 star health facility. Make a difference when you are 80

Unfortunately $70k is now the poverty line in most areas..... 😆

When a realtor writes this, I'd instantly be skeptical. The vast majority of realtors today wouldn't have a chance at being able to determine this.

Also not a fan of the neighbor's back yard/back side of the house, that is directly facing the front of this house.
