I am also curious as to exactly how you determined the proper size of the new flex piece to buy and was it flanged.

Tweco does sell mig guns with flexible tips but it costs more than your whole welder would be

I've done this before.
I chopped off the old and measured. Sadly the downpipe is about 1 7/8" and the other end is 2" even. I got a flexpipe with a 2" ID for slip-fitting and a 3" long chunk of 2" OD pipe that was just the right size inside. Any gaps, I shot full of weld.

Thanks for the pics. I think I will need to do this again soon. The flex piece that is on the car was put in Dec 2008 is already frayed. It's not the original, and as far as I can tell, it's harder to do it when it's been done once already. My welds will look just as bad, or worse.
Where did you buy the flex joint? It came with some pipe attached?
