2015 Explorer. I disconnected the negative cable but should I also do the positive?
Welding on muffler, do I disconnect the battery?

Personally I've always disconnected the battery (neg cable is easiest, no sparking when your wrench slips) when welding on my vehicles. Cheap insurance.
Years ago at work, we had a couple guys doing some welding on a truck bed of a mid-2000's Ford F-450, and the driver reported the radio didn't work and the ABS light was on afterwards. Could have been coincidence, but the fact it happened immediately after makes me cautious.
At the end of the day, if you give the welding current a good path to travel-- a clean ground close to where you're welding, the current is going to move between the ground and the place you're welding and there should be no ill effects. So don't put the ground on a rusty screw up front, and weld on the back muffler. Electricity is pretty simple, use common sense.

I don't disconnect the battery when working on the electrical system. Just pull the fuse that controls what I'm working on. Haven't had a problem in 60 years.
