This might be a dumb question but do welding helmets expire? I’ve got a helmet that I used 21 years ago that hasn’t been used since. Don’t know if I’ll use it again.

Does it have an expiration date printed on it? Or the date of manufacture?
Is it an auto dimming or old school single shade? Auto dimming the electronics might be fickle after all those years. The old school single shade will outlive all of us.
I have a Lincoln auto at home and work bought me a nice Miller auto dimming. Electronics are more picky on the Miller, but I didn't buy it so yea.

I spoke with a ophthalmologist about electronic dimming helmets in general. He was in favour of them and wished more of his welder clients used them.
Many glass single shade ones have replaceable lenses. My Miller single shade is 35 years old, minimum, and I don’t weld enough to have a sore neck from using it…
I’ve had my auto darkening helmet for over 20 years and it still works. I used it a couple weeks ago to weld up my lawnmower muffler.
If yours is not auto darkening you should be fine. I’ve not seen one of those go bad. Auto darkening can get finicky when they are older.

If memory serves, I've used #10 and #11 glass....and 11 was dark.

My Lincoln Auto Shade helmet, only thing I replace is the battery.
