92 Mits mirage 123k miles 1.5L 4 speed auto
I have a massive rear main seal leak. losing a quart every eight miles. I gave auto-rx a try and it didn't work, but it wouldn't have fixed this!! so I and a mechanic friend dropped the transmission.. I compared the rear main seal to the new one..they are identical to like new condition. there was no cracks, tears, or gaps in the 12 year old rear main seal. The guy that worked with me said that he didn't need to pop the seal out with a screw driver. he removed it with his fingers. it was halfway popped out. I saw it myself.
He said he never seen anything like that before. what the #*!! would cause a rear main seal to pop out? what could I do to prevent it from popping out again?
