weeping water pump

I've got a 94 accord, 4cyl., with 110K which has developed a leaky water pump because the idiot's at the body shop put on a coolant reservoir bottle from a junkyard which had mud and all kinds of junk in it.

This car is a bit of a beater and I am willing to experiment on it for the sake of science.

1-will any of the stop leak products work on a seeping water pump?
2-can the water pump be changed WITHOUT removing the timing belt?
3-I have the honda shop manual and timing belt/water pump installation, although tedious, does not seem all that difficult. I have all the tools that would be necessary for this job but have never done a timing belt change before. As for as timing belt installations go, is this car one of the easier or more difficult ones to break your cherry on?

it really isnt that bad. i have done honda and mazda timing belts, both of which go around the motor mount. i did my sisters honda belt in 3 and a half hours and replaced the waterpump, oil seals, and some kinda pulley just for the heck of it. i dont know why people make such a big deal over import timing belts.

My recommendation is to defer the Honda install to a Master tech/Pro.

Looking at bent valves caused by bad timing belt installs are not pretty.

These jobs can quickly drift you down Murphys "proverbial" creek.

Not even the finest oil can prevent that kind of internal mechanical damage.

I got a quote of $200 +parts from a reputable shop. Not worried about screwing it up, just don't want to kill my saturday and sunday since this is my first TB/WP and an accord seems to be one of the more difficult cars to work on.

the old mazda 929 seems like a piece of cake in comparison.
