Since when is 26C being "blasted" by a "heatwave"? We are getting 34C this week, and that's hot, but not atypical for southern Ontario. I assume the media will sensationalize that accordingly.

This image sums up this approach to turning the weather into fear porn quite well, IMHO:

And of course Canada isn't immune to the same stupidity:

Ermagerd! Not seasonally normal temperatures that approach comfortable! Somebody turn down the blast furnace, we are all going to die!

And shocker, trust in the media is at an all-time low, and yet they don't see the correlation?

The UK is not built for the temps we consider normal in the summer. Very few homes have AC and they get the humidity like we get.
That's true, but 26C isn't hot. My AC doesn't even come on until 24C and 28-30C is pretty nice cottage weather to sit on the deck, eat burgers, drink a beer...etc. Once you get over 30C, that's when it starts to feel a bit hot.

When I was in Dallas, we had some hot days. One of them was 114F (45.6C) and that was the hottest weather I'd ever experienced. Then, there was a flash rain storm which drove the humidity through the roof, it was like being in a wet sauna, just gross.

It's hot to them because it's not normal. No A/C at most private homes, at least back in '89 when I spent most of the year in London. Although I was only 13 I remember the sweltering record heat that summer. London also had a draught and water was in short supply. I spent many summer days at the movies because they had A/C. Keep in m mind at the time I was still used to LA summers and London felt less comfortable.

London was >37C in the summer of 1990, so I assume 1989 may have been similar. That's actually hot, 26C isn't.

When I was in Dallas
That area, if you did not already know, is referred to as "The Arklatex". Southern Arkansas, East Texas, Northern Louisiana......anyway....that area has, almost inarguably the worst regular weather in the USA, meaning "on the regular". You experienced death inducing heat, kills people everyday in Texas.

The worst non hurricane I have ever seen was in that area. And it happenes on the regular. In Dallas, many car dealerships have the entire inventory covered with anti hail "tents" observe in the picture below:

I went to this dealer years ago to buy a truck, and was amazed by the tents they use, due to the frequency of hail.

That's just about the temperature at which schools may send kids home or tell them to stay at home. It's only June and the summer break starts in late July. Two years ago, London hit 104°F.
