I currently use Maguiars wax on my Dakota. What wax last the longest and provides the best shine? Is wax better than polish or vice.versa? Also, I have been contemplating switching to Turtle Wax Platinum Series, how does it rate? One last question, what is the best, non-stripping, car wash? Thanks for all the help.

Some knock it, some like it; I use New Finish in the orange bottle twive a year and the water beads up and the paint on my almost 8 year old Cherokee looks pretty good.

Have tried many products over the years. Liquid Glass is a good product and Rolite polish/sealant which was used on Airplanes. Am using "One Grand" Blitz Carnuba paste wax on my restored 70 Mustang but it doesn't see much weather so I don't know how the product would stand up otherwise.

Tried a 3M system a year ago on my Tacoma and it worked well. Used their #39006 "One Step" cleaner wax first which removes light swirl marks and then #39526 "Perfect-It" show car paste wax which leaves a, as they put it, "wet look" finish. It seems to be standing up to the elements nicely. Haven't tried too many washing products.

I use Zymol Cleaner Wax. It goes on and comes off easy. The best smelling stuff I have ever used! Works well. Was recommended by Lexus dealership for an RX300 I take care of.

Guru Reports (www.gurureports.org) reported Zaino Brothers (zainostore.com) as the best they tested. I have been extremely pleased with the new NXT from Meguair's.

Klasse, Zaino or any decent polymer is gonna give you the longest durability. Wax will need frequent application to look good. I would stick with a polymer and you can always add a quick detail to spiff it up.

guys, I think zaino is the best for dark colored cars.

I just did my truck, it is a ton of work to do all the steps.

Wash the truck with dawn to strip wax.

Then claybar it with a claybar (several hours)

Then apply polish LOK, real easy

Then wax it with the zaino wax.

The zaino wax goes on like butter, and comes off easy.

The finish is a mirror and I have used everything under the sun.

The wax equivalent to this site.

Personally I use Meguiars because it is good quality and available (I don't like mail order). "The best wax" is like "the best oil". I differs from person to person. As far as polish vs. wax, I do a polish and then wax on top. I have had good luck with Meguiars Deep Crystal 3 step system too. Cheap, easy, looks great.

SlimTacoma nailed it, autopia is the place to go. I personally use the Klasse twins on my truck and am 100% happy. The shine and depth are fantastic, and, being an acrylic, the durability blows carnuba's away...

twistedfinn, your right, autopia is to auto detail as this site is to oil. Polishing is part of your prep for waxing. Polish doesn't protect your finish just cleans it. Waxing does protect and adds some depth to your finish for looks. Enjoy autopia, don't forget to use the search function to get a narrower view of your interests. The home page has an acronym chart on the left that'll be handy trying to understand some of the jargon being said on the boards. Good luck dude!

Autopia has a nifty keen message board. But, ensure you click on the ratings link. Various products are rated with comments made about the products. Those ratings, along with the board comments........ will likely leave thee dazed and confused!!!!!

From what I can decipher..... for the average Joe Six-Pack who doesn't have a waxing fetish, a sealant is a better choice than a wax or polish. That's the route I've selected. Next spring I will remove the sealant I have now and give Liquid Glass a try. If I'm not happy with it I'll try the Klasse All-in-One followed by a couple coats of the Klasse Sealant Glaze.

If I'm not happy with how that combo holds up I'll go back to the NuFinish. It seems more "chemically" to me than other sealant products but I know it does hang around protecting the paint from the environment; both natural and man-made.

Zaino's is the best IMO> I don't think anything else comes close to be honest. I have a friend who is fanatical about this stuff and after talking to him and using Zaino's, I think it's a superior product. I'm not a fan of any "all in one" product like Klasse. I'm sure it's good but I don't think it compares to Zaino. On the retail level, 3M I think makes the best products and then Mothers'.

I go with liquid Glas too...very easy to apply and remove ...I have actually "waxed" 3 cars at the same time useing Liquid Glass.

I have also used the Klasse products ...good stuff too.

I was a big Liquid Glass fan for a number of years, but there are three things I don't like about it. One-I find it isn't the easiest to remove, not compared to Zaino or some of the newer products out now. Two-it leaves a lot of dust residue behind. And Three-it leaves hazy streaks on black cars which don't go away unless you leave the car parked in the hot sun for an hour or two.

WOW>> not easy to remove..to me it is the easiest I have tried...virtually no effort involved...when I say I have waxed 3 cars at the same time I meant ..apply to each cars hood , bt the time done applyiong to 3rd car can wipe off the 1st ..then the 2nd then third ..then repeat with 3 more body panels...to me very very easy
As for the "dust" yeah I have to agree.

It's possible they've changed the formula for Liquid Glass since I last used it though too. I think the last can I bought was in 1997. So the newest stuff might be a lot easier to buff off.

I think the easiest stuff in the world to buff off is (was?) the Super Glaze product made by the Wax Shops. It doesn't last very long at all though.

patman, while not a detailer, i do like my motorcyle to look good. i have been using the regular turtle wax. i picked up the new finish also. it's so easy to apply and remove and i think the fact that it can be applied in the sun is a plus too. i use it on the chrome also. i'm into ease of use, and although i have heard great things about some of the others, i realy don't want to have to do a 3 part system, or clay and such. i think for the money and ease of use, new finish is hard to top. my brother also uses it on his yamaha jet ski and loves the stuff.

For a dark color I like Pinnacle Souveran. Not as durable as a synthetic but I enjoy waxing my vehicles every 1-2 months. Waxing is my golf!
