I'm in the middle of replacing my leaky lower thermostat housing on my 2003 Ford Ranger 4.0 SOHV. 160k miles. Now with eveything removed I can easily do the water pump. Ford wants over $200. Napa has one for half that. I'm hesitate on the NAPA waterpumps, are they any good? I've always used OME Ford in the past...thanks

New aftermarket waterpumps are almost all Chinese sourced.Its a toss up wether the subgrade parts used to make the new pump are any worse than the quality of the rebuilt pumps that are out there.They will rebuild pumps 2,3,4 times...leaving huge porous spots in castings and press fit problems with the hub and impeller (they will even glue some on!),I have seen some pumps lose their hubs and go thru the radiator! Sad times were are in.
Rock Auto has the Motorcraft pump for $115 + shipping. However, I don't know if you could find one locally for a decent price or wait for one to be delivered.
I've done a bit of ordering from RockAuto.com and from Amazon.
That being said, go check out what is available from Napa.
Speaking with friends who are trusted tech's that use Napa full time, they haven't had any issue using Napa parts including water pumps.

I've come to appreciate being able to warranty a part like that, in town/locally though. But I need my cars, pretty much daily. Can you deal with not having it for a week while you ship a part back for warranty replacement?

The Duralast water pump I put on my truck was made here at home in the U.S. of A. Been installed well over two years now and still doing just fine. It only cost $58.00, and my local Auto Zone had it in stock on the shelf. I had problems with the Napa pump I had bought prior to that, and I posted about it here:

Napa chinese coils did not work in my car. had to get nissan oem.

Best WP on the planet. A guy on the ClubLexus forum cut one apart to examine the design of their mechanical seal. He is a very knowledgable fellow who has worked in the automotive repair business his whole life. He said the Aisin WP is, by far, the best design with the best quality of any WP he has ever seen. I installed a NAPA WP on my 99 Avalon which I believe was a reboxed Gates unit. It was loud as heck. I replaced it with an OEM Aisin which was perfect. I replaced the original at 85k miles while I was doing the TB. Looking back I wish I would not have spent the time and money to do what I believe was unnecessary PM work. I would say factory Aisin WP's will pretty much last as long as the engine.

We would second this ! There are a few Camry's in the family with mileage over 200K,
specifically 225K and 268K. While the belts and hoses have been replaced, the water pumps have not. Absolutely no noise or evidence of weeping. If and when they are replaced, it will be with Aisin water pumps.
