I used to have one, looking to get another. Does anyone here have a recommendation for a particular brand/model? For less manual input, I'd like to get one that makes more than 1 gallon each run, something that has a 3 to 4 gallon tank (of distilled water) with auto refill of the tank, hooked up to a water line.

Thanks.

Distillation is energy-intensive. There are better methods of filtering or purifying water, depending on your intended use. Is it for drinking, or some chemistry use? Is there something in particular you're trying to remove from it?

If you're making moonshine, we can talk about that too.

My primary objective is to drink CLEAN water. My understanding (please school me if you say otherwise) is that a reverse osmosis system will not remove the pharmaceuticals and pesticides.

Also R/o is wasteful. I understand the energy investment of distillation and there was a significant increase in my fpl bill when I was doing this 7 years ago. Since then I've been using an ionizer that makes alkaline water but I appear to be in a place where the purity of the water is of more importance to me.

My plan was to repeat the old method: add "Concentrace" minerals and a small amount of aluminum free baking soda (to slightly increase pH) to distilled water.

Moonshine? lolol....my drinking days are WELL over! haha

All/any input perspectives are welcome. Thanks.

If you're worried about contamination in your drinking water, send a sample to a reputable lab (not someone who sells purifiers). You may find out that your water is safe, and no further modification needs to be done.

The alkaline water/diet is pseudoscience, so you can save your money there too. If you think it tastes good or something, it probably isn't doing any harm other than emptying your wallet.

De-alkilyzed water can leave you sick. Na K Ca Mg are not just add packs for oil, water too. If you overindulge in pure water, like I have seen in the US (what the heck is with all these people and water bottles?), low Ca with heat arrhythmias and so on. I like to use RO water in the kettle and the coffee maker for cleanliness, but will not drink pure water round the clock.

If you can come up with a cheap way to build a still though, share how so I can have my very own meth[anol] lab.

Not sure where the aluminum in baking SODA myth got started but all baking soda is aluminum free. Baking powders may contain aluminum salts. I add a bit of baking soda and pink sea salt to my R/O water to give it some "body" and it also ends up being alkaline. Bottled waters that are produced via R/O usually add some sort of mineral salts for body/flavor.

The tap water here is fine and safe, but it has chlorine smell and can be funky in the summer. Not unsafe, just unpleasant. Since I drink water almost exclusively the R/O system is worth it to me.

Four words ... Stainless Steel Pressure Cooker. Cheap as in "Garage Sale Cheap". Or just buy one.

Stare at it until the obvious comes to you. There is a thingy it will come with that you can put in a drawer until someone wants to actually cook with it. One fairly important part goes where the thingy is supposed to go, and there is another hole in the top.

You use that other hole for a thermometer.

And in case you ignore specific details I'll spell it out for you ... do not use an Aluminum Pressure Cooker.

My fridge has a Pur water filter in it, which gets replaced every six months.

Taste of water is great, no bottled water at home is even better. Less waste.

Are you trying to get rid of the fluoride by distilling the water?

distilling water is the best method to get pure water!as for wich brand ,given how poluted water is now a days ,there are probably a lot of new player that sell online only ,so its hard to recommend just one

as for getting sick because of distilled water? seriously .let me get this straight ! people put 2 tablespoon of apple cider vinager in water because their body is too alcaline ( getting fat) or they body isnt acid enough and drinking distilled whater would be a problem? who only drink water? i dont ! i also eat food etc. dont sweat it .distilled water wont be a problem! why? because unless you never go to any visit or restaurant its almost impossible to only be on distil water . but if you can do it ? and you feel like you miss on some stuff .fine put a pitcher of tap water in the fridge and drink some once in a while

Distilling water works all fine and great as long as what your trying to get rid of doesn't also vaporize at a temp similar or lower than the boiling point of water. If it does it just gets cooked out and condensed right back into your "clean" water.

Reverse Osmosis is really the most cost effective and overall effective way to handle it, it will remove pharmaceuticals and larger chemical molecules as the membrane is designed to only let through water.

RO water is purer than distilled. In distilled you get carry-over with the steam. Also anything ion the water that vaporizes lower than H2O will condense with the steam.

No.

Your body maintains homeostasis at a pH of 7.35 - 7.45. You can not alter that through diet, and if you somehow managed to, a trip to the hospital would be in order. The idea of an acidic or alkaline body is pushed by alternative medicine Internet hucksters who are trying to sell supplements, diet plans, and other nonsense.

Even when you drink water your stomach releases digestive fluid which instantly and radically alters the pH of the water no matter what.
