There have been quite a few threads recently about how much pre-heating the oil reduces start-up wear. I have a slightly different question on the same area.

Does a reduction in 'cold starts' increase the sevice life of an oil fill? If I park my car in a heated garage during the day, and plug a block heater in at night, will my oil automatically last longer?

I know that short-trip, cold weather service reduces how long you can run an OCI, but I'm wondering if you reduce the number of times the oil has to heat right up from very cold temperatures to operating temperatures, if that increases oil life. I know it will reduce engine wear, but will it reduce oil wear?

Being in Canada with rather brisk winter conditions there, anything to pre heat the system is a good idea.

Oil wear by more or heat/cool cycles? Do you mean like stretching a rubber band back and froth until it breaks down and breaks?

The pre heating of the oil or coolant is a good idea for an engine in severe cold, and it is good for many reasons. The oil is one of them, but for different reasons than you suspect.
