No 5w30 to be seen. So, dealing with my small-block Chevy, I stood there for a good 5 minutes, thinking it through.. and got 10w30.

The cheapest stuff on the shelf. I did not look to high mileage or synthetic oils.

Would you have dine the same, if the only choices were 5W-20, 10w30, 15w40, and 20W-50 Supertech? Why would 5W-20 be bad in a 350SBC? (5.7L)

In the summer it's less of a big deal. Going into the warmer months I probably would have gone with the 10w as well. Actually, I prolly would have found a high mileage that was 5w. But if that could not be found, 10w is fine.

Go online to Walmart......select the Ultra product you want ....... and then keep changing Walmart store locations until you find one that has the correct oil in stock.

Walmarts are not always good with keeping the shelves stocked.
The 10w30 is fine for your engine in warm weather.
Heck, it was the default grade for the SBC for many years.
I use clearance or FAR 10w30 myself in applications where 5w30 is the prefered OM recommendation.
No harm in using it in warmer conditions.
