The Purolator Classics have a fairly small section at my local WMs, and the popular L14610 size is often out of stock. Not good.

Also, I know some are going to flame me for this, but I really fail to see the value of Purolator Classic filters for most Honda and Toyota applications. My last box of 10 genuine toyota OE filters was $40 shipped to my door, including drain plug washers. For Honda, I paid $45 shipped for 10 filters, including the washers.

So, for less than a $1 more, I can have a filter that is guaranteed to be adequate for the 10k (Toyota) or 20k (Honda) interval that is specified by vehicle manufacturer.

The L14610 a very popular application was also out of stock at the Wally I went to. The shorty L14612 was one of the applications I noticed that had been removed. The latter is not a big deal in and of itself as the L14610 will fit in most places the 14612 is spec'd.

I don't think anyone here would confuse the nitrile adbv Classic with any silicone adbv filter. Also, few people that shop Wally for oil and filters are going to buy filters in mass quantities to store for use later. Most go in to buy oil and/or 1-2 filters, to do an oil change. The $3.27 Puro Classic line for ~5k oci's is arguably the best value in oil filters there.

If the shortening of the Classic selection is truly sales based because of extensive advertising, then so be it. If it's based on something else though, then that's another matter.

The Walmart by me is about 2/3 Fram's, 1/3 everything else. It would bother me more except for the ability to get PureOne's from PepBoys or AAP for $.50 to $1 more than the Classic at Walmart with coupons.

Based on the questions/conversations I overhear in the oil aisle, I'm sure many WM shoppers are going whatever is cheap and the name they recognize.
