Noticed the Walmart greeter, kind old lady, was wearing a neon yellow body cam.

What has the world come to when grandma wears a body cam. I asked her about it, she didn't know what she was wearing it.

I presume the reasons are 2 fold - more facial recognition data and safety for the greeter.

agree, not sure about facial recognition since they already have cameras scanning every face that comes in the door.
Definitely, I would say is a deterrent for anyone who engages with the greeter and another warning to shoppers they’re being watched.

The Security booths are right inside the entrance doors where you see that solid steel door. Inside are security personnel, computers, and monitors.

Interesting theories. Maybe these cameras are for show, i.e. fake. It blended in with her vest so it wasn't immediately apparent.

Some of the cameras in the entryway, the lenses look less than optimal. You'd think they can swap them out.

I won't say it's true, but I've seen enough anecdotal stories that I believe it, that these big stores will allow you steal from them until you reach a certain felony threshold and then they have you arrested and they have all the video evidence. Maybe this camera is all part of their plan.

Agree, figure they’re using all the tech to track repeat offenders. Kind of like the casino..

Never hurts to have more cameras for evidence. Those store camera quality always look like they're from the 90s.

The Walmart stores in your area still have greeters? I haven't seen one in a Walmart for quite some time. Admittedly, they do seem to come and go.

Not certain of your age but I remember Walmart's having the bubble covers in the ceilings concealing the cameras.

I don't know if Walmart still has those but I think Target and our regional grocery store Jewel Osco still have the domes.

EDIT: Best Buy definitely still does lol.

Certainly they film you at the scanner, but most thieves don’t make it that far. Granny has a good shot of the wanna be thief before the perp reaches the oil filters.
Yeah, many do not know, let's say our local mostly national chain supermarket. We always self scan at checkout. There are six scanners in self check out with typically one employee holding a device in their hands. Where, let's say I am buying beer, without moving she can approve the sale form even 15 feet away.
Anyway, we know all the employees, sometimes we take our dog in a bag that hangs on our shoulders. They love our dog.
One day were were scanning and my wife both handing me stuff to scan and other times taking the stuff I already scanned.

The scanner stopped scanning, requiring the employee to come over and figure it out. Right on the scanner screen she played back the video of my hand moving the product over the scanner without scanning it. What happened was the scanner thought I was passing the product by without scanning. What really happened was I scanned it but then passed it back to my wife to put in a bag, the scanner picked that up as me passing a product by it and not scanning it. I was impressed!

My wife was a manager at Walmart some years back . There was nobody onsite monitoring cameras . That was done at Bentonville . They had a security guy walking around in plain clothes . That door you describe was probably the cash office .

I was in there at the open door- Security people and the room I described.
There is a reason the steel door opens up right near the entry/exit doors for the store..

I’m not saying your wife is wrong for her store. But I can tell you the store in North Myrtle Beach is as I describe.

The Walmart in the bad areas yes, better areas, no greeters to be found, no receipt checkers.
