After a lot of debate decided to get new tires for the old Focus. Couple months ago bought some used ones since at this point no idea how long it would keep running. Those tires pulled even though moved side to side, looked fine so no idea.

The Douglas tires are smooth as can be up to uh the speed limit. The Firestone tires prior to used tires has always had a vibration, several different locations same result. Our Escape is the same way with its Firestone's. Although I did go to a rural Walmart so maybe that's the key.

The next debate is maybe suspension work just see how long the old girl will go..

That looks like a first gen. Until last year I had a 2000 since new. Decent car, but the suspension was one of it's weaker points - both front and rear. On tires, I ran Douglas on mine for a lot of miles without any issue. Were getting pretty worn by about 35K, but that seemed OK for the price.

I've run the Douglas tires before, like eljefino says, not the best, but not the worst, but definitely a good value. I'm running the Dextero all terrains on my beater Blazer and they are an outstanding value for the money I paid. Made in USA too!

It's a 02, been in the family since 04 and 32k now 167k. The factory springs broke and replaced those with Monroe's. There's a creaking noise from the front but not sure if it's those or the rack. Never touched the rears yet, might throw some shocks on it. Really needs all the bushings but if it's worth it don't know. She'll run 80mph all day long and rides pretty good though.

Yes, Walmart is one of the best places to get tires! Besides the price, they use proper torque and don't try to upsell you anything because they only perform very limited services. WM won't upsell you a service they don't do.

The biggest problem is that you can often wait over 4 hours

Bilstein makes shocks for the Mk1 :D

Another option is Motorcraft quick struts.

Lots of cool things you can do with one of those
Euro tail lights (with amber turn signals)
Folding mirrors from an SVT (can be aftermarket)
You can even get a 304 stainless Borla exhaust for it ;)

Also, spray some Krown on it! I see rust under the back doors :sneaky:

Douglas are made in the USA by Goodyear. I rarely buy new tires, but the Versa I was selling had a missmatched set of 4 different brands, the best of which was a Douglas with like new tread. Good used tires in that size go for $30-$40 so when I checked Walmart and saw I could get new Douglas for $43, it was a no brainer and bought three. The three I took off I sold later for almost as much.

Your experiences at Walmart are much different than mine.
I could not disagree more with you regarding buying tires at Walmart. In my experience/opinion absolutelly the worst. Maybe just the store.
Costco all the way

Had good luck with Douglas over the years. You just need to buy them with the understanding you're purchasing a mid level tire. Could do a lot worse but hard to beat for the money. My last set put on in October were made in Chile.

I've had a few sets of Douglas tires over the years from Wal-Mart. Now I usually go to a local tire shop that I've always had good experience with. I bought a set a few weeks ago from the local place and he had me in and out of there faster than I'd even be able to get Wal-Mart staff to acknowledge me. Getting anything at all done in our Walmart tire centers is an all day affair. Half-day if you're first in line.

Lol that's more than I'll want to do to this! But it is interesting haven't looked into the interchangeability options of the Focus in a long time. I was in and out in under a hour but I was the first one there.

Interesting these are made in US.. probably depends on the size. I didn't even save the old tires. Tired of messing with tires!

I've thought about Dextero's for the Escape next. So tired of the terrible ride of the Firestone's on it, wear like iron but the ride is horrid.
