Wal Mart Pricing Issues

I'm 47 and I'll stop changing my own oil when they pry the wrench from my cold, dead hands. (Sorry, couldn't resist.)

Turning fifty isn't so bad.
Been there, done that, got the t-shirt.
Fifty isn't all that old, certainly not old enough to consider farming out something as non-strenuous as oil changes.
The thing is, many do so as their personal economics improve over the years.
I guess I wonder why.
Why pay someone for an easy service you can do cheaper and better yourself?

Here in NW NJ I'm paying $14/5 qt jug of the Motorcraft 5W-20 Blend

I'm over 50 but under 60. Sad to say arthritis has made changing oil more difficult and painfull. I still try to do it as much as possible, especially in these poor economic times. Weather conditions also dictate whether I change the oil or not. I can only do it outdoors.

I just bought a jug of SN PYB at Walmart for $10.88 a few weeks ago. Good oil great price.

PP prices have gone up a bit but I don't mind running dino until next winter.

DIY oil changers are either penny-pinchers or AR/OCD.

Whatever mix of them decide to chase whatever dragon is what the market will be.


BitOG members seem to exhibit both of these traits, PP and AR/OCD.

$8 for ST dino? I thought ST dino was $11 (which is why it'd be so much better getting Mobil Super 5000 for $0.50 more.)


Maybe the price went up, but I paid $8 for ST dino a month ago.

I know if it were $11 I wouldn't have bought it because ST synth was only a few dollars more and I would have ended up buying ST synth instead

I applaud you sir. Hope you can keep the arthritis back and stay active! Go out to the park after changing your oil, or maybe the next day.

Well, I can see that arthritis would change the calculation.
Even some younger people I know have been affected by it.
If I have to change oil or fix a car during the winter, I try to wait for a warmish day.
Sometimes the weather is accomodating, sometimes not.

I'm 68 and time my OIC's on both the Avalon and F150 so I can do it in warm weather. That means between April and November in my area. I use Schaeffer's 9000 synthetic in the Avalon and change it at about 10-11K. The F150 gets Havoline or Pennzoil and I change it at 5K. That is still about once a year. Unless something unforeseen happens, I plan to do this as long as I can. I may have to break down and get a creeper. That concrete gets pretty hard sometimes.
