Waffle houses weird ordering language

From what I've now gleaned after some 'net research, they use a physical signaling system to encode/decode orders, as well as some vocal cues unique to order status. (Placement of products on the plate in certain locations, "1 order = 3 bacon", etc ...). OK, so now I understand the WH ordering "language". It was not clear from the OPs initial statement (complaint).

What I would not like:
- Don't put containers/packages of food products, which have not been sanitized, onto my plate and near/on/under my food. The outside of all these little jellies and condiment packages are NOT sanitary once they have been handled. While the food inside them is safe, the outside is just as potentially just as germ-laden as the handle on the door of the restaurant.
- Don't touch my food with your server hands. I don't care if the server washed their hands 5 minutes ago, by the time they touch tables, cash registers (not to mention handle the bacterial biohazard which is monetary bills), scratch their noses, grab the germ-infested rag they use to wipe down the table but haven't changed the dirty water in the rag bucket in 7 hours ... It all adds up to viruses and bacteria. And then they're going to tear off a corner of my cheese and put it on top of a jelly package on my plate?????

How can they be really serious about food safety with practices like this? I don't understand how they can pass city/county health code inspections with this type of food handling. I haven't ate at a WH in decades, and after seeing this info, I'd rather take my chances eating the dead possum outside in the ditch. (I exaggerate ... sort of ...)
have you ever been to a waffle house?

You might be very displeased with the standards of inspection, especially health inspections. You know that little paper with a % rating?

Most think that that % is out of 100%, like everything else in the world. But some states, use 130% as top score instead of 100% I think this is disingenuous, but it is 100% fact.

Most places are filthy. And I am not speaking from opinion, eyewitness right here.

But, we dont die, I mean in mass. Waffle house is home to some nasty folks, but they do have a good breakfast, especially drunk or equal at 4am, going home with people you dont know.

Used to be my favorite spot, I go twice a month or so now......I live dangerously!:)

You can say the same for a McDonalds in the inner city (a bunch of homeless filling all the tables wasting time), vs a farm community (a bunch of retirees hanging out all morning just to have something to do).

Can even change based on time of day. I would occasionally stop at a Waffle House near the Charlotte Airport on the way to a flight. At 5:00AM it was full of blue collars and LEO on their way to work. I made the mistake of stopping at 10PM one night on the way home - huge mistake.

Food is 100% dictated by the short order cook currently working.

I haven't been to a waffle house in years. Been meaning to go. Whatever their model it clearly works for them.

Here they're usually next to a Lion's Den lol.

I've been to one in Tennessee with my ex coming back from Nashville. It's the hallmark American breakfast diner, that's all I got to say about it.

I used to eat at the WH close by a couple times a month when we first got to town, especially when certain cooks and waitresses were working. Can't go to either of the 2 we have now because the food/service/cleanliness of the places has become so bad. Plus, at some point or another, have arrested just about everyone that worked there for some reason or another. Can't trust my food safety after that. Eggs Up Grill is my go to breakfast place now or Sherbys Irish Pub. They make a mean corned beef hash and eggs. Order up an IPA to wash it down with and life is good.

I wouldn't be arresting anyone that makes my food 😂

Well, thats primarily why I don't eat there anymore.

We have choir practice for that 😁.
Why arrest someone at a restaurant. Doesn't look good for the establishmment. It's one thing if they clearly did something wrong, but I wouldn't be fishing for anything

Don't disagree with you at all about food safety, but those things aren't as risky as they sound. Our county health department has all inspection records posted online and available to anyone. Just checked a Waffle House in a rougher part of town and looked at the (4) most recent inspections. None noted any issue with WH's "utensil code" for plates.

The waffle house I was at dropped a plate on the grill and it shattered into a million pieces and got into the food they were making.

I eat at WH probably at least once a month. When we go visit my mother, we always stop at WH on the road trip for breakfast (I'm going by myself tomorrow as it's her birthday and I just might stop in the morning too.... 🤣). Pffft, if it's a day my wife works and I ask our teenage daughter if she wants to run somewhere for dinner, her # 1 choice is always Waffle House. Sure, it can be greasy (well, she normally just get a waffle and sometimes adds hash browns), but it's "fresh". It's inexpensive too and most importantly, it's quick.
